5 on Friday

I am really enjoying the slow week. Yesterday I came home for lunch and stayed at home for the rest of the day. I had to rewatch some recordings so it was much more relaxing to watch them at home on my couch with a cup of coffee. Highlight of this week:

  1. I got to see Lizzy at swimming practice this week. I promised her to go since the start of the school year but never managed to. She did well, doing what the coach asked her to do instead of playing around like other kids. My visit made the practice special.

2. I got my second tailored batik and I am in love! The fabric is so soft as it’s silk, and I love the shape of it. It looks more formal than my other batik and I love it.

3. I taught Sri, our helper, to make Milanese and she did great! Girls love them and had it for dinner. Now we have many more mildness to enjoy for weeks to come.

4. I enjoy watching Sofia practice piano when she’s not rushing through it. I have my favorite songs and ask her to play more of it every time I get a chance. It is also so sweet to see Cookie making her company, as always.

5. I called my mom on my way to office. I know I should call her more often but always find hard to find the time. So one day I just called her on my walk to office which is 10 min only. It was short and nice to know what she plans to do during the day. I should do this more often to share more mundane things with her instead of calling her every once in a while to do long catch up.

Weekend plan:

  • Take Cookie to Vet, first time in Jakarta
  • Girls’ swimming practice
  • Long run on Saturday as I have a dinner at a colleague’s place in the evening and I don’t think I’ll enjoy the run with poor sleep and too much food.
  • Sunday lunch celebration for husband’s birthday
  • Make chocolate chip cookies with Sofia for her class party

Q: What are your weekend plans? Anything fun? Do you have birthday traditions?

  1. What a great week!

Our weekend has a big mix. Very sadly I have to attend a funeral tomorrow morning (for a 16-year-old who just passed from a brain tumor; absolutely heartbreaking), there is an airport run, church, grocery shopping, basketball practice, and hopefully some time to just relax and watch a holiday movie with the kids!

  2. Happy birthday to your husband! Our only birthday tradition so far is that I make a cookie cake for their family party. When I was a kid, we got to pick the meal my mom made for dinner. I was 1 of 5 so getting to choose what she made was kind of a big deal!

We have a fairly quiet weekend – I have a favorite things party on Saturday and The Grinch at the Children’s theater on Sunday afternoon so not very much all in all!

  3. Wow, that batik looks amazing on you! I LOVE those colors!! So elegant.

I have struggled with having good windows of opportunity to call my parents lately, too. Years back, I used to drive more places – to/from the hospital for work, I did more driving of the boys to various activities, etc- and I used to call a lot on my way home from the car. But now I work from home and just don’t have as many of those “driving” times to call. When I’m home I’m usually busy or working or now I have Charlie I’m dealing with… It’s rare that I have time to just sit down and call! I feel bad about that, but we’ve been seeing my parents a lot lately due to our bathroom remodel, so overall I still am very in touch with them. We text quite often too. But I still feed bad sometimes especially when maybe I do have time to call, but I’m just tired and prefer to listen to a podcast or just….not talk to anyone. 🙂

  4. That outfit is gorgeous. And you got that tailored?

I call my parents three times a week (usually) but we can’t keep it short LOL or otherwise I’d call more often.
