My favorite fitness items & weekly workout report

I’ve seen many favorite lists and found them helpful. Thus, I thought to share mine in case you find it useful.

  • Oura ring. I’ve been wearing it for over 4 years and still find it helpful. It captures my readiness level very well and continues to provide me with insights as the company keeps improving their hardware and software. I do meditation through the app almost daily and I love seeing how rested/anxious/calm I am.
  • Garmin watch. A must have for runners to keep track. I have forerunner 735XT but I believe most of the watches have similar features.
  • Running shoes. I am big fan of Ascis Kayano gel series. This year I fell in love with saucony endorphin pro. I have the 2 version and love it. I bought a new pair when I went to Chicago. I use it for racers and super long runs. I also like the brooks ghost and use it for easy runs.
  • Gels for running. Huma chia and maurten.
  • Running water bottle. I don’t like holding anything. For runs less than 2 hrs, I bring two of these. For longer, I use a water hydration pack.
  • Running sunglass. I have goodr but found the glass to get finger print easily so I bought a new pair and like this one better. It filters sun more than goodr and has a neutral look that I can use for non-running days.
  • Protein powder. This one is vegan, cheap, no weird taste that I’ve been using for years. I usually add it to oatmeal or baking goodies for extra protein.
  • LMNT: best electrolyte ever. I like its taste too. I use it daily.
  • Headband to catch the sweat. I hate when sweat goes to my eyes. Although it’s not pretty, it does the job weel.
  • Sweat scarf. I bring one when I run and find it useful to clean my sweating face along the way.
  • Running short, bra, shirt. I have 5+ pair of each, different colors, mix and matching them. I love the quality and style and feel great wearing them. I use them everyone and they hold well even after years of use.
  • Airpod. For music/podcast while running/working out.

What are your favorite fitness items?

Last week workout report, Dec 4-10

Mon: 35 min yoga

Tue: 7 miles on TM (6 miles easy and 4 strides), 25 min runner stability and core

Wed: 6 miles easy, 35 min upper body, 15 min lower back mobility

Thur: 7.6 miles (6 miles easy, strides, and cool down), 16 min single leg workout for runners, 16 min lower back mobility

Fri: rest

Sat: 12 miles LR

Sun: 5 miles easy run, 3 miles with Sofia in a super chill pace, full body strengthening and mobility in the afternoon (90 min)

Total miles: 37.6

Strength training: 4 session, 2 short ones targeted for runners.

Mobility/yoga: 4 sessions

Solid week of running and strength and conditioning. Mileages are slowly increasing, and I feel like I am taking them well. Not fatigued after the run, feeling the pace super easy as I am doing runs with RPE instead of target pace. I try not to look at the watch but run by feel. This is a different way to train for me with the new coach. So far I like it as it doesn’t stress me out if I don’t hit a pace. It allows me to slow down when I need it, especially during luteal phase of my cycle, when my overall energy level is low. Now I try to do more, run faster, lift more often and heavier during the first half of the cycle, and slowdown and do more yoga/pilates during the second half. It took me years to figure out the pattern, finally!

  1. Ooh! I think you’ve given me a solution to my hydration vest problem. I have a single vest and a double (the single holds one 21 oz. bottle and the double holds two.) The single vest is so much more comfortable (the double vest makes my back sore) but sometimes 21 oz isn’t quite enough liquid. I think if I got one of the bottles you mentioned here and clipped that to my belt, I could get by with the single vest. Hooray!
I also love LMNT. And I’ve never tried Maurten gels but I want to!

  2. Question- what do you do with your phone while you run? You said you use Airpods so you must be listening to music and/or podcasts… I ran the other day and found it clumsy to carry my phone with me! When I used to run (YEARS ago)… the modern iphones weren’t really a thing yet. I used a little tiny Ipod shuffle and wired headphones, and the ipod shuffle just clipped on my shorts waistband. It was tiny. But I like to have my phone along since I use my Apple watch for tracking and also for music/podcasts. When I just walk it’s not an issue since I usually have a pocket I can stick it in or I don’t mind carrying it.

For clothes, those Lululemon shirts and shorts are very cute! However, I am NOT a t-shirt person for exercise. I wear almost exclusively tank tops no matter what I’m doing (well unless it’s freezing outside but normally I don’t exercise outside). I have many different tank tops that I wear to the gym, but I’ve never tried Lulu tanks. I should check them out.

  3. I have a really inexpensive running belt that I love, too. It was $14 on amazon! Besides that my other running raves are my shoes (Hokas) and I’m picky about socks but the ones I buy last for years so it’s worth it to buy nicer ones! I can’t remember what brand I have, though. I haven’t bought any in 3+ years! When I trained for the marathon, I transitioned to using those chia seed gels, too. The other ones were too sweet or something and upset my stomach but the chia ones worked great!

  4. Thanks for sharing your favorite fitness items. I always love to see what other people “swear by”. I also love my Garmin! I have the FR235. And I’ll be looking at these sunglasses. I rarely run with sun glasses (I always feel like they hinder my peripheral vision LOL)… but I know I should invest in a pair.
