5 on Friday: happy things

  1. I had solo lunch one time this week while reading. A colleague H stopped by to say: bon appetite. The interaction lasted few seconds but brought me a big smile and warm feeling. Why? Because I wouldn’t have known he passed by as I was reading, and it was super kind of him to take few seconds to say hi. He knows that my good friend K, my usual lunch buddy, left, and that I could be feeling lonely.

2. Hubby has been driving me to work as my walk buddy left Tuesday evening. It’s just 10 min of shared time and I really appreciate his gesture.

3. This is the text I sent to my friend K Wed morning. Not only it brought me joy to send it, right after my morning meditation, but for him to receive it first thing he landed.

4. I’ve been doing strength training without videos for a while, week 12 of the program. It was only this Friday that I thought about listening to Caroline’s playlist while working out. I love Caroline’s videos, 50% of the reason is due to her music. Why I waited so long to combine the best of both worlds? 🙂

5. We had a lunch date on Friday. It was right after a work coffee catch up meeting so the shift of conversation from “serious” topics to “mundane” topics was noticeable and soothing. We opted for French

burger for hubby as well as fois gras as appetizer that we shared

I had chicken as my original order octopus was not available. It was okay dish and left me hungry 2 hrs later.

The colleague friend that I met before our lunch just shared about his divorce, likely due to his constant traveling. As I had lunch chatting about groceries, chinese new year plan, custom forms for my mom and my mom in law, I was deeply grateful for my husband’s support to my career. Although I don’t travel as much, I don’t work on weekends, I try to be with the girls as much as I can even if it means leaving office 4pm when most of others stay. But, that cannot compare to the work he’s doing to make my life easier and worry free.

Hope you are having a good end of the work week and something fun planned for the weekend. Ours will be chill as girls don’t have swimming practice. I have few fun things planned:

  • eye lashes extension
  • manicure
  • 18 miles LR with workout
  • massage
  • Killer of the Flower Moon
  • Sally’s memoire

  1. I love that text to your friend; that is so thoughtful. You are right too about when the friendship is important you will make sure that it stays going, no matter where you are in the world! I have a friend who is doing a one year assignment in TX with limited communication and she and I have talked about that, how we will make sure that regardless of where I am when she gets out, we will make a point to see each other or be in touch!

  2. Have a great workout. I love the long run w faster segments. I had one today (15 not 18) and it was so much fun. And report back on those eyelash extensions!

  3. Awww, those kinds of friends are the best. All of my best friends don’t live in my city, so I rely heavily on the fact that I know these people will always be there, no matter what.

  4. Those kinds of friendships are the best. So smart of you to write that out to your friend so they know how important their friendship is to you! I am sure you brightened their day!

I’m the traveler in my marriage but I try to limit it to once/month if I can and I try to fly out late in the morning when I leave so I can help get the kids off to school. And I make it clear to Phil that I know he has the harder job of the two of us most of the time (I think my last trip was probably harder than being home with the kids because of the long hours/socializing requirement but usually my longest days are still easier than his days). I can see how traveling would be hard on a marriage especially if you traveled A LOT. Like my sister’s husband was gone for almost 2 weeks and she has a 3you and an 8 month old. I can’t imagine solo parenting for that long! They are doing great but I know those long trips are so so so hard for her especially with a baby waking at night, etc etc.
