Last weekend before Paris

We had a long weekend as Friday was off for Easter. Indonesia being a country that respect muslim, hindu, christians, all religions holidays are observed.

Frdaiy morning was super slow. I woke up early but didn’t have to run (did I mention I started TAPERING?), then got up and went through my daily morning routine before girls woke up. I prepared their breakfast, ate mine, and started packing, VERY SLOWLY, like what meds (usually just tylenol for adults, kids, allergy meds for me and Lizzy, eczema creams, bandit). Although I could pack everything in 2-3 hrs for the entire family, it feels less stressful when I have few days to do so. By 9am, I left home to have a coffee with a colleague who lives in my building. It has been a long time since we last catch up. Girls went with daddy to a mall to get some supplies for Cookie.

I got home by 11am, did some reading, finished planning Paris, and made myself some lunch. Girls came back and we spent the afternoon reading, (kids) playing, daddy watching a movie, I tried to nap. Then girls and I went to get some groceries before dinner. Lizzy had some stomach pain close to bed time, diarrhea even thanks to eating out with daddy, so she stayed in my bed that night. I couldn’t sleep well as the memory of her screaming every few hours during the night when we first moved to Jakarta due to parasite was still vivid. Fortunately, she slept through the night. The next day, I told her she won’t be eating out without me until we come back from Paris! I’m not going to take care of her if she doesn’t watch out what she eats. Then the same to daddy, because it’s always me suffering the consequences of others bad decision.

Saturday: girls have swimming practice as usual. I had physio. I had mild headache (day 1 of my period). Everything was wrong that day. I couldn’t focus, I felt terrible during the run, the air quality was bad, I was super annoyed by everything and everyone, while fully aware that it was end/peak of my PMS. I knew it will get better the next day.

Sunday: I woke up much better. Did 10 miles easy jog alone, then 2 more with Sofia, and final one with Lizzy. They are preparing for their mini runs in a week time.

We had breakfast at Mcdonal’s, new tradition

got home, changed, and went to ice skating. It was part of their Christmas experience gift. I am glad we finally did it. They “skated” for 1.5 hr. Sofia liked it, Lizzy found it hard and tiring.

We bought some pies for lunch and had them on the car ride home. Because I didn’t take any rest between running and taking kids out, in day 2 of my period, I was quite exhausted by then and lower back was sore. I ordered a home massage while waiting for the girls. My massage therapist was waiting me at home when we arrived. I had 90 min massage, and then wrote down a list of chores for the girls before leaving home to get pedicure and lashes extension. Lizzy said: yes mama!

Pretty chill weekend, except my mind is playing all kinds of tricks and games, getting more anxious and obsessed about race preparation. I know I won’t have access to long runs to calm my nerves, so need to figure out strategies to calm down while embracing whatever it comes in 7 days.

Hope you all had a good easter weekend.

  1. Getting ready for a trip is hard, and you also have your race to think about! Glad you got that massage- it must have felt good

I hope you have an amazing trip! Hopefully you’ll be so busy, you won’t have time to stress about your race. Have a great time.

  2. The taper time period can be so nice as cutting back can feel so good not then your mind can play tricks on you and start to worry about things and even feel phantom pain! I can’t wait to see how the race goes, though. You’ve had a great training cycle.

The massage sounded amazing! It’s nice to be able to order something like that on demand and have them come to your house!!

  4. I love that Indonesia celebrates all the holidays! I have often thought of how Christian-centric our calendar is, here in Canada, and we are such a multicultural country, it doesn’t seem fair. For example, last year when my younger son was in high school, he mentioned that there were only five people in his sports performance class that day. I said “What happened, was everyone sick?” and he said “Mom! It’s Eid!” and I was kind of ashamed that I had forgot. So all the kids who celebrate just had to be absent for that day. I think that’s a shame, that there are important holidays that are not observed country-wide. I guess this is a long way to say YAY INDONESIA!
