Life maintenance & transition to routines

We got back on Saturday evening and had a relaxing Sunday. A good long run, groceries shopping, meal prepping (crepes, berries chia jam, apple cake, veggie prep and sauce for my buddha bowls, aduki lotus porridge), and 3 hours of reading the book while Sofia caught up with her piano theory replay, finally I watched this documentary which is very inspiring.

Monday, I took Sofia to school to get her laptop, dermatologist appointment, dentist appointment for her last baby tooth extraction, ending with a facial for me.

Tuesday was to accompany husband to his colonoscopy procedure. I was more nervous than I thought I would be, especially when the nurse called me to go in to show me what his stomach/colon looks like. I thought they found something serious. Fortunately, all good, only some chronic stomach inflammation. I spent the rest of the afternoon with more meal prepping (banana muffins, sheet pan ratatouille, girls helped to make the glutinous rice balls with black sesame filling, and pasta sauce for girls’ next day lunch). I was quite exhausted by the time I finished, feeling accomplished.

Wednesday was first day back to school and office. Now that they are in two different campuses, we are making some logistic changes. Sofia’s campus is 30 min drive from home, daddy is taking her leaving at 6:45am. I come back from my run before 7am and walk to Lizzy to school. The walk is 15 min so it’s doable, unless raining, and I take it as a great solo time with Lizzy. In the afternoon, Lizzy ends school at 2pm, daddy picks her up, drops her at home, and then go to pick up Sofia. Twice a week Lizzy needs to be dropped at Kumon center first, then pick up Sofia to kumon as well. For days that they go to swim, more driving for daddy. The change of schedule affects daddy more than me which I appreciate a lot him willing to do that. It is the norm that people get drivers here, but daddy prefers to drive himself.

Emotionally I don’t feel ready to get back to work full speed, so I’ll take the transition back slowly as many people haven’t come back from summer vacation.

We finally got the Australian visa! Lizzy’s was rejected at first because I clicked the wrong button. OMG!

Our lease got extended to June 2025! Yay! It was some latent stress when we were in Bali as it wasn’t clear whether we can get it extended or not.

Things to look forward:

  • Smoothing back to the new school routine
  • Swimming competition this weekend for the girls
  • Perth trip is coming up in two months and I am super excited about it. We met a couple in Bali who live there and gave us good tips

  1. The different school schedules/early starts can be hard but it sounds like you have a good plan in place to get everyone where they need to be and still fit in your run. Hopefully the return to school goes smoothly for all. Paul doesn’t start school until 9/3 so we have another month of summer left! But he’ll be gone the last 2 weeks of August so I need to take him school supply shopping one of the next 2 weeks. I love buying school supplies but last year he was not as excited about it as mom. 😉

I did not make it to Perth when I studied abroad in Australia and I kind of regret that but I had only so much time/money to travel so I just didn’t get there (I was north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast). But I have heard nothing but wonderful things so I am sure it will be a wonderful trip!

  2. Have a great trip to Australia! It’s on my bucket list and I have a friend in Sydney that I am dying to visit…. it’s just so far away from where we live right now. Sigh.
