I may have not opened my goal list since I wrote it down, I know, embarrassing. But let’s see how did I do without actually have to check them.
The world of the year is OPENING. Opening to new ideas, selectively, and mindfully. I think overall I have done it well.
PERSONAL GOALS
- Mindfulness. Meditate. Focus one task at the time. Minimize distractions. I meditate most of the days while not traveling. I could still focus more and minimize multi-tasking, like walking to office without music/podcast, doing chores without anything in my ear, not eating in front of computer, etc. Work in progress.
- Be aware of tradeoffs. CHECK. Even when I get annoyed with too much noises at home when the whole family is around, I remind myself that what’s the alternative? do I want that alternative? One day, kids will be gone, and I will terribly miss those noises.
- Running: Set a new PR for my marathon. CHECK! Paris marathon 2024, 3:57:41
- Fitness: Continue strength training, aim for 2+ times per week. CHECKED 90% when I am not traveling.
- Diet: incorporate more protein. CHECK. When I am not traveling, I average 80-100 g per day. I’ve since started the vegan trial in July for 3 months, to see how it affects my blood sugar control, LDL, and training.
- Reading: read slow, take notes to fully absorb it. Read what gives me conform and what takes me out of comfort. CHECK. I am not focusing to read certain number of books per year, I am reading what sounds good, fun, interesting at the moment.
- WISH: run a sub-4 marathon. CHECK.
- WISH: go on a trip with my friend. CHECK. I went to climb Rinjani with one of my best work friends in Indonesia.
FAMILY GOALS
- Schedule 1 on 1 time with each member. Either a meal out, a walk, a trip. Semi-CHECK. We did schedule few 1-on-1 time with the girls, maybe twice for each. But mostly we take spontaneous opportunities to be alone in a casual manner. With husband, we had few massage dates and lunches together.
- Plan one big trip with key elements: nature, active, unexplored. CHECK with our Sumba and Bali trip. We will have two more trips like this later in the year.
- Regular small adventures: new restaurant, new places in our city, new movies, new recipes. Semi-CHECK. I prefer to stay home on weekends to rewind, relax, which we only little time for as girls have swimming and other activities most of weekends. I am happy to abandon the outing while in Jakarta as we do a lot of exploration when traveling. New movies and new recipes, yes! I am watching more movies this year, and with the regained interest in vegan food, I am having fun trying new recipes.
PROFESSIONAL GOALS/WISH
- Get out of my comfort zone. BIG CHECK. My presentation in DC was way out of my comfort zone, my stress level a month out of the presentation was so high. It went well and I finally calmed down minutes before my turn.
- Read more work related topics. NEAR ZERO and it is okay.
- WISH: land in a new job outside of Asia. Unlikely to happen in 2024 and that is fine.
OVERALL despite zero check-in since I wrote them down, I did quite a lot of progress toward them if not all.
For the rest of 2024, I want to be even more intentional with time spent with the family, more on that later. 🙂
Almost everything was either a “check” or “semi-check,” so I would consider that a win. I’m impressed by your mindfulness goal. I never really thought about it, but I’m almost constantly multi-tasking. Listening to podcasts while running, also while driving, eating in front of the computer, eating while reading… I have to think more about this!
It must feel good to look back and cross some big goals off your list, like the marathon PR : )

You got a lot of them done!! For not looking at them at all, I am impressed! Also, you have done a lot of traveling actually and the fact that you still have two more trips planned this year is great. I am a huge fan of learning about the world through travel and I know the kids are going to benefit from it both now and in the long run!!

Wow! Impressive, especially since this wasn’t a list you were keeping a close eye on.
I agree with Kyria. Your kids are going to grow up to be such wonderful travellers.

You have done great, especially considering you have not looked at this list since setting it! To me that means you were really aligned with the goals and didn’t need the external list to keep you on track.
I’m still in a weird place with goals. I made a few this year and one was to go on quarterly dates with Phil which we have so far accomplished. Quarterly seems pretty low but it’s kind of a hassle to get a babysitter and we are both tired in the evenings. Ideally I would like to do some day dates with him but that would require taking time off from work and we both have been so busy! But I am really proud of what I have accomplished at work as I’ve done a ton of meetings and have traveled a lot which helps our sales people grow assets.
