Wonderful weekend & workout report

We had such an amazing weekend. The highlight was the swimming meet up where Lizzy exceeded our expectations and beat all other swimmers in her heat wave, boys and older kids included, in butterfly. She did well in all 5 events, I was WOOOO look at her! I am so proud of her and kept telling her all the work she has done since June training 4 times a week has paid off. She’s beyond proud of herself. Meanwhile, Sofia also did great, improving her time in all the events and trying new distances (200IM, 200 free) for the first time.

Saturday half day was the swim meet. My favorite pic is Sofia went to Lizzy after she completed the 25 meters fly where Lizzy beat Sofia’s classmate (6th grader boy).

After the event, we got Japanese takeout for lunch, still savoring the victories.

I was tired after that and took a nap, before starting with reading. I got 2 solid hours of reading while girls had their piano lessons.

Sofia went to a sleepover birthday party at 5pm. Lizzy watched Netflix with grandma, and I started watching It ends with us. I know the review is not great and I almost quit after 20 min. But then, something clicked and tears kept coming out. Not that I was ever abused but the feeling of first love, second mature love, and re-seeing your first love. Don’t we always miss those first years of falling in love? So pure, so beautiful.

Lizzy and I spent a long time hugging, savoring her swim progress before bed. I read a bit more and felt asleep, deeply, satisfyingly, happy.

Sunday started with 13 miles super chill run, followed by some household errands, before going out for lunch for family celebration of Sofia’s birthday at Sofia.

Gosh… these girls are growing so fast. Sofia is officially free to pick up any cloth from my closet and Lizzy is taking up Sofia’s pass on cloth almost every week

Afternoon was spent reading, a grocery run with daddy, girls did homework, Lizzy hang out with grandma. When I am relaxed reading for long hours, I get sleepy early. I went to bed 7:30pm and slept solid 8 hours. That’s a relaxing weekend 🙂

Workout report:

Monday: 6.4 miles. Legs were tired, humidity 90%, went super slow to make it enjoyable.

Tuesday: 8.9 miles easy with strides. Still hot and humid, felt better at the end of the run. 20 min mobility and strength.

Wednesday: 15 min easy, 8 sets of 1 mile at 25-30 secs faster than desired HMP, cool down. 12.1 miles in total. That was a hard workout especially so many sets. Felt good the first 3.5 sets, found it challenging to endure sets 4-6, the last two sets I ran by feel, not by pace. Overall happy with how it went.

Thursday: 6.8 miles easy. Started with tired legs and overall fatigue, ended up feeling better. 20 min upper body strength.

Friday: rest

Saturday: 7.5 miles easy. Not the great run given heat and humidity (82F, 90% humidity) and second day of period.

Sunday: 13.1 miles super easy run, kept HR around 135. 15 min stretching in the afternoon.

Total miles: 54.4

Strength: 2 ish.

  1. Swim training 4 x a week since June! So glad that Lizzy’s training paid off! That’s an important life lesson for her, too.

Well done on your half marathon training too. I’m surprised your training plan has you run the actual 21km distance as part of your training, but I guess it gives you a good feel for the distance.

  2. Great weekend and congrats to the girls on their good swims! Happy bday to Sofia- she really is looking so grown up! (Especially when I think back to when I started reading your blog, which was like… 2020?) I bet you’re getting excited for your half marathon. Coming up fast! I feel like I’ve been so busy/ a bit out of touch with all my regular bloggers and it’s made me sad. I’ve still been following along but haven’t been able to comment and stay in touch like I like to… sitting in the airport now and am determined to get all caught up!! I miss you guys!

  3. amazing swim performances! and it is going to feel SO amazing for you to race in cool weather. I remember suffering through a similar workout in May before the marathon and then it was 60F for the marathon and running just felt so EASY! Will totally be the case for Perth.

  4. Oh, your weather sounds like ours! It’s hard to run in that. What is the weather supposed to be like for your race?

Congrats to the girls! That’s exciting, and so fun to see as a parent. Hard work really does pay off!
