5 on Friday: full mode to life

After few days of unusual relaxing days, I was back to full life mode as working mom with many tasks/schedules to keep. I love this life much more despite always feeling I am forgetting something because my girls and my husband bring me so much joy, oh… and the cat too 🙂

  1. Lizzy didn’t have school on Friday as it was parent teacher conference. So she made a little house for her post lunch nap in the living room.

2. Talent vs. working hard. Her teacher told me that Lizzy is very good with math. And she has upgraded to junior dragon swim teach (youngest in her group). I asked her: you are good at math and swimming. do you think it’s because you are talented or because you’ve worked hard. She contemplated for few seconds ands said: she’s talented with swimming and worked hard with math.

I asked Sofia the same question few hours later. Sofia didn’t pause and responded: obviously because I work hard. Without working hard, talent is useless. 🙂

3. Friday evening was swim night light, a fun competition event among students and potluck. Sofia was not confident as the competition is mixed for all middle schoolers, but she did great! She got 5 meddles (2 relay) and PB in all events. That was a nice surprise and she kept telling me that she’s very satisfied with how she did, and that maybe she hasn’t hit a plateau yet.

Lizzy also did great but was disappointed that she didn’t get any medal as she was the younger by at least 2 years in all events.

4. I am seeing some colleagues getting very stressed out by job hunting situation (end of year shifting for some who has stayed in one place for more than 4 years). I feel extra lucky that my situation is settled and no more uncertainty and frustration.

5. Back to running in the 80s from 50s was not easy but still very happy that running goes with me anywhere I go. I don’t have any race planned for 2025 yet as not sure how much travel across time zones I’ll have to do until June, mostly likely I’ll do a full second half of the year, but do shorter races the first half. Any ideas of good races? By good I mean: flat course, cool weather, medium to large event, well organized, and fun/new city to us.

  1. I agree, hard work serves you better than talent. However, when the two come together, it produces incredible elite athletes and people with phenomenal careers in the business world.
I could think of many races that fit your criteria, but they’re all in South Africa or Switzerland!
