Severely jet lagged

What about recording how hard and how long is to endure a jet leg? It could be fun right?

I arrive Jakarta Sunday 7am, feeling quite well as I slept well during the first 13 hrs flight and took a nap in the second flight (8 hrs). I spent the day at home unpacking, laundry, and long to do list that I pre-planned for my free solo day at home. I was quite productive. I took a nap after lunch and went to bed 7pm.

I woke up naturally midnight, just on time to welcome the family. Then went back to sleep 2am until 4am. First night summed up 7 hrs with interruption.

Monday: I felt good after my run until 8am when I suddenly feel headache and just overall exhaustion. I had to go out to get my Indonesia driver license, which can be used in Brazil. I was planning to go to office but when I finished 11am, I was still feeling exhausted so I went home. I took a nap after lunch and woke up thinking it was morning (I slept 4 hrs). Feeling better for few hours and went back to sleep 7:45pm until midnight again. I had a work meeting (for Brazil’s job) at 1am, so it was “perfectly timed”. The meeting ended 2:30am. I went back to bed, couldn’t really sleep despite being tired, and got up 4am. Let’s see how the rest of the day unfold.

It’s going to be challenging, I will feel bad and mad for feeling not normal, but I know this is temporary (7-10 days) and I will go through it with hugs and chats with the girls. I loved so much dining with them, made them Hainan chicken, and listened their ideas for their new room in Brasilia.

I will have regular evening and midnight meetings until I go back to Brasilia in March, I plan to take naps as part of the routine.

It will be fine! If I asked myself 5 months ago when I applied to this job, with remote chance of getting it, whether I would be willing to endure jet lag and remote working for a while, I’d jump into a big YES! So.. “enjoy” it. 🙂

  1. Your mix of productivity, strategic napping, and sheer endurance is impressive. It’s great that you’re balancing the tough moments with things that bring joy, like meals and chats with your daughters.
Temporary discomfort for a long-term gain: I like your stoic attitude. It’s going to be worth it! 😊
