Last 4 weekends in Jakarta

I have 4 weekends left in Jakarta, crazy to think about it, so soon, although not sudden. I recall the 2-3 weeks before we left Manila, I was in a sadness state for leaving the “perfect” life behind to a new place with unknowns and less exciting life. This time around, I feel nearly zero sadness as I am confident that our new life in Brazil will be more exciting and fulfilling, I know that despite not being perfect, the messiness and the processing of settling and finding our new rhythm will be rewarding to do as a family. The only sad part of leaving Indonesia is knowing that we are unlikely to visit Shanghai for the next few years.

Saturday:

  • Sofia had swim meet up and left home 5:30am.
  • I went for a run and the gym. I’m up to Iron series #12.
  • Someone came to check the Furnitures we want to sell and confirmed me few hours later that the fridge, the 3 cabinets are sold, and that someone will come check other things on Sunday. How efficient!
  • I helped Sofia to sort out her clothes when she came back. Packed clothes we will take on the flight.
  • I packed the bags for my next trip to Brasilia, bringing essentials for 2-3 months without most of our belonging.
  • I booked flight for mom to come while I’ll be in Brasilia.
  • I took 2.5 hrs nap realizing I missed few calls, one from BFF that I really miss talking to.
  • I watched half of Babygirl and had mixed feeling about the plot.
  • I read the kindle sample of Annie Bot, per Sarah’s recommendation, and downloaded the book when I fished.
  • Went to bed 7:40pm despite waking up from the nap past 5pm. I followed husband’s advice, don’t stress about sleep schedule, just sleep when you feel like it.

Sunday:

  • I went for a LR, although not sure how long as it has been a week without proper sleep. It was raining. I ended up doing 10 miles as it was raining heavy by then. I could have done more, surprised by my energy reserve.
  • The family slept in and just got started their day by the time I got back from my run. Slow start of the day feels right for a Sunday.
  • I noticed the living room is a total mess and surprised that I was not too annoyed. is it possible that you get numbed by living in the mess after a while?
  • I reviewed my journal and remembered to take pics of the girls, as part of goal list, take one pic of them per month.
  • I finished paperwork for Monday’s visit to Argentina’s embassy for husband’s visa.
  • I went through the bathroom cabinets to sort things to pack, to ship, and to throw.
  • Buyers of furniture came and we agreed on the prices for one of girls’ bed, the big sofa (beloved sofa since 2011), husband’s office desk, TV stand. The person will pick them up by end of March, perfect as we can still use them until them. I am so happy that the sale went fast. Now we only have few things left to sale and we are good. New house, new furniture, exciting.
  • Girls seem more attached to the furniture that they grew up with, which I understand. But unfortunately, our shipment wont’ fit them all and they are over a decade old, so time to update.
  • I ordered take out for the girls, husband had leftover Hainan chicken, I made a mismatch of things from the fridge. Food and cooking is not priority now.
  • Husband took Cookie for a dental procedure that required overnight fasting and anesthesia. She was not happy before and after the procedure.
  • Nap for 3 hrs. I know… not conducive for getting over jet lag but felt good.
  • Finish Babygirl and I feel sad for all the main characters.
  • I went to bed to read Annie Bots while girls watched Netflix.
  • 8pm in bed with the girls, like a normal evening routine.

I am loving this post! So many pieces of wisdom I can relate to.

  1. Four weekends—that’s not much! Things are getting really exciting!

I wonder what your Garmin would say about your sleep if you wore one 24/7. With all the naps, your sleep and Body Battery stats might not be as bad as you think. In any case, you had enough energy for the long run, which is definitely a good sign!

  2. Four weekends! That really does put things in perspective. It’s nice that your mom will be able to come to visit while you go to Brazil. I’m sure it’s been nice to be a somewhat closer flight away from her while you’ve been in Indonesia!

It’s funny how we can become OK with things like a messy house let me know it’s for a limited amount of time and it’s kind of a necessary part of the process!

  3. I laughed at your daughters being emotionally attached to the furniture. I’m the same way, I get attached. And like you said, they grew up with it. I think the mess would bother you more if you didn’t know how temporary it is. 🙂

  4. Wow- that post “Everything I’ve Ever Learned.” SO many amazing things there (“Life’s not a race, it’s a party!”) I want to go back and read some of those essays. Thank you for sharing that!

Good luck with everything! This is a stressful and exciting time for you. I love your husband’s advice to just sleep when you can and not worry about it. And- as always, running will keep you sane.
