7 on Friday

  1. This was my last week at the current job and I figured out what I’ll miss from this: people. It’s always about people. Probably not all of the people I worked with, but a selected few that I’ll miss interacting in a daily basis. They throw me a farewell dinner, gifts that represent Indonesia (batik prints!), and a printed photo frame with messages from colleague. it’s a great way to say goodbye feeling appreciate and liked despited my bluntness sometimes. It also taught me how to be the leader for my new team in Brazil. Hosting, getting people together around food, casual chats, getting know their personal lives, are what makes work a core element of our life.
  2. Big progress was made in term of selling our belonging: furnitures (95% gone), car sold to a friend. Also I ensured my helper has a job.
  3. I am finally over jet lag, 10 days later. I started taking Calm (2 generous tsp) on day 9 and I slept through the night, 5.5 hrs. The next time I did the same, I slept 6 hrs. On day 11, I didn’t take any and I slept well until 1:55am when I had to get up for a 2am meeting, and then went back to sleep at 3am until past 6am. I’m taking Calm with me to Brasilia hopefully it helps with jet lag too.
  4. Packing every day. I have started to do daily packing of things we will take on our final departure to Brasilia. We will have 18 suitcases for 5 of us, so I want to pack them gradually, otherwise it feels so overwhelming.
  5. I entered to the NYC marathon lottery. The website was jammed when it opened, so I know my chance of getting in may be slim but will give it a try. If I don’t get in, I’ll find another race in Fall.
  6. Using up pantry. I’m going through it everyday to see what can we use up. I hate wasting food so it’s actually fun to plan meals around pantry. We’ve sold one fridge so now we have very little space and can only store 2 days worth of vegetables. It means more trips to the groceries store and simpler meals.
  7. I may be getting sick after all. I felt I was running on fume since I came back, not sleeping well and just exhausted. Both girls are coughing, Sofia almost done with it after a month. Lizzy still coughing quite a lot. Yesterday I felt sore throat and a lot of sneezing. I hope it’s just mild and get rid of it quickly.

  1. Your productivity is so inspiring, Coco. I am beyond impressed with all the progress you’ve made with wrapping things up in Indonesia and planning ahead for Brazil. I feel like you should be writing a book about work transitions and international moves. You clearly have this down to a science!

  2. Wow, your last week already! Even when a job wasn’t a great fit for me, there are always a few people to miss, and I try to stay in touch with them.

That is great that you’ve sold most of your furniture in your car and you found another job for your helper! I hope you can fight off whatever illness you have. I was sick this week with a sinus infection so felt pretty terrible. Plus I was traveling so that made an extra hard, but I was able to easily get some antibiotics early in the trip so that really helped.
