Weekend: swim meet up & sickness

Saturday

Swim meet up: Girls had a swim meet up with other international schools. I didn’t have much expectation for both girls because the age group cut off was unfavorable for them. Sofia was placed in 12-14, Lizzy was placed in 12 and below. Lizzy hasn’t trained for the last three weeks so it was expected that she wouldn’t do so well especially it was her first time participating 50 m events, and 100 meters free. Sofia exceeded my expectation and won bronze medal on 200 meters free, improving 5 secs! it was such a joy to watch her pushing (bolting as she would say it) in the last 25 meters and surpassing the other girl that was ahead of her for 175 meters. I was surprised to hear her name out loud by few enthusiastic friends and friends’ family member that I didn’t even know. Sofia also did well in other events, improving in each of them. She was competing with girls of 13 and 14 and much bigger size than her. I was so proud of her. She was also satisfied with her performance and determined to train hard for next competition. Lizzy was disappointed but I told her that if she trains hard in the coming weeks, she has a chance to medal in Bangkok.

Getting sick: I woke up with mild headache and didn’t think too much of it and went out for a run. I was miserable. The headache continued for the rest of the day and I thought it was PMS headache. When I got home from the swim meet up, I felt even worst without the distraction. I went to bed for a nap and woke up still with headache. Then I had some dinner and went to bed for the night at 7pm with headache and lower back pain the whole night.

Sunday

I woke up feeling warm and headache. My aura ring showed readiness at 39/100. Clearly I was sick and not PMS. My overnight temperature was 1.4 degrees higher and RHR was 15 beats higher. I measured myself and I had some temperature. Also I was coughing more and had mucus. I think I got it from Lizzy and with my compromised immune system lately, it was not a surprised.

I spent the day taking naps, watching Apple Cider Vinegar, and helping girls to organize/declutter their rooms in preparation for our move. It was a productive day as they went through all their shelves and cabinet.

Husband was super helpful to do all the cooking and dishes. I was joking that he’s practicing for our new life in Brasilia, he’ll be in charge of cooking until we get the helper from my colleague.

We said goodbye to our car, a bit sad. Isn’t it interesting how easy we attach to things we use in a daily basis? If we attach to things easily, no wonder we attach to people even more.

Monday

I woke up feeling still sick but no temperature. Coughing is stronger and my throat is in pain. I will go to the doctor today, probably need antibiotics to fight it off. Fortunately I can work from home from now on as I finished Indonesia work. It’s no school day for the girls so another weekend like day with lots of relax time, and maybe I have enough energy to make them a good meal.

  1. Oh dear! So sorry to hear that you’re not feeling well. Get well soon!
Sofia did awesome on her swim meet up! So glad it went well for her.
Lizzy shouldn’t feel too bad about her performance – after all, missing 3 weeks of swim practice is a lot for anyone, and it’s especially hard when you have to do something you’ve never done before.

  2. I’m so sorry you’re sick. Boooo. Though I’m sure your body is extra run down with all the stress of moving + dealing with the jetlag.

I find the temp stats soooo helpful from my Oura ring. And yikes – that is a low readiness score. I’m glad you paid attention to your body and rested.

  3. Ugh- sorry you’re sick! Yes, it was probably hard to fight it off since your sleep hasn’t been great lately. But, thank goodness for antibiotics- I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, it is funny how we get attached to objects! I would also be sad to say goodbye to my car.

Congrats to Sofia!!! And Lizzy- I hope she’s able to train and be happy with how she swims in the next meet.

  4. Congrats to Sofia!! I hope there’s a swim team that she can join when you move to Brazil! It sounds like she has a natural ability and also is a hard worker!!

I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling well. I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly and you start to feel less sick. It’s nice that you’ll be able to work from home for the rest of your time in Indonesia especially now that you don’t have a car. I ordered my oura ring yesterday! I had to get a sizing kit so I’ll have to get sizes 1st, and then I’ll get the actual order a ring hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

  5. I’m glad the girls had a good swim meet! You know I love the sport and I think it’s such a good one for kids to do!! So fun. 🙂

Hope you’re starting to feel better finally now… You’ve been under a lot of stress with the impending move etc and all the intense travel and jet lag probably also took a toll on your immune system!
