Updates

I slept 2 hrs the first night back in Jakarta. I was not bothered because husband was also awake and we talked from 1am to 6am.

Sofia told me that after her last day in school, she’s done with sadness, and super excited to start our new life in Brasilia.

Lizzy showed me the gift her class prepared for her, a personal message from each of her friends with a picture of the two. It’s such a sweet and memorable gift for her to cherish for years to come.

My mom tells me husband has been doing so much and is very tired for packing and finishing everything. I know, and I love him for doing all without saying much.

I was sad to leave our helper without having found a job for her. The previous person that said would take her changed his mind.

We are staying in an airbnb in the same building for 2 nights as we finished packing our place. It’s EMPTY for real. Girls said goodbye for our little home of 2.5 years.

Lizzy’s farewell party went well. She had 4 friends, although she mainly played with her BF. When it finished at 4pm (started 10:30am), she didn’t show sadness per se but I know she is sad and I hugged her. They played 2 hrs at a superpark (indoor play area), I brought them back in a fancy car, they spent an hour at the pool with Sofia monitoring them, and another hour at playroom. They asked for McDonals’ for lunch and they had donuts for snack. Lizzy was exhausted by 7pm.

Cookie was terrified while packers packed. She seems to anticipate what was coming for her.

I was soooo tired and sleepy by 2pm that I had to lie down, but I couldn’t sleep because husband took Cookie to the airport, and I was super nervous of what could happen. Well, our worry materialized. The qatar staff examined the cage for a full hour and still not happy with it!!! I was going banana!

It’s ridiculous what they said. They said not EVERY single square was exactly 1.9 cm x 1.9 cm!!! I already started to look for alternative flight in Turkish airline, called the agent to be ready to cancel/change flight. Then last minute, after the export company’s staff discussed further with Qatar, they “offered” husband to sign a waiver of Qatar not being liable if anything happens to Cookie. I was like…. what can you be liable about? what difference does it make if anything happens to Cookie.

So Cookie boarded with husband, after 1.5 hrs of STRESSFUL negotiation. My biggest worry is her water intake. She never takes water from a bottle and probably doesn’t know how to. Can she survive without water for 26 hrs? I really hope so! Until husband meets with her again, my stomach will be MUSHED!!!

I had to show my knife twice. First, the packers left rushed and did not pack a drawer. The company person said it was my fault for not checking properly before they left. My answer: you either tell them to come back to pick it up, or I will complain to the HQ. They came back 3 hrs later and picked the items. Second, the company that sold me the cage that did not comply with Qatar airline was taking forever to refund me the price of the cage (the minimum they could do, after I’m paid for the whole service again for a second attempt). I gave an ultimatum: “I am still waiting for the refund. I hope you do it today if you care about reputation at all“. Money was sent 5 min later. I don’t like to be the mean person but sometimes one needs to be firm, otherwise others just take advantage of the weak.

Husband transited through Doha smoothly. He slept most of the flight from Jakarta to Doha, he has been stressed and sleepless.

12 more hours in Jakarta and that’s a goodbye for good.

Will chat in another side of the world 😉

  2. Oh my goodness the cat saga, Coco. What a hassle. I hope everything went smoothly on the flight, she DID drink some water, and that you’re all settled comfortably so soon in Brazil.

  3. OMG Coco! This rigamarole with Cookie! What a nightmare! Like you need that stress on top of the stress of moving, omg, I would be just so frustrated. I was reading this and getting more and more stressed on your behalf.

I hope the rest of the trip goes smoothy, please update us as to Cookie!

  4. What a whirlwind! You’re handling all that stress like a champ. Moving is tough enough without pet drama and last-minute issues. Fingers crossed Cookie figures out the water bottle—animals can surprise us!

Lizzy’s farewell sounds perfect, and that gift from her friends is such a treasure. Kids really know how to make the most of the moment. Also, good on you for standing your ground with the packers and cage company—sometimes firmness is the only way to get things done!

Wishing you safe travels and smoother days ahead, Coco! You’ve got this!
