Building our new weekend routine

We had 4 days long weekend and I LOVED IT! We didn’t do much except Lizzy’s birthday on Friday and I really like it that way. Even when we lived in Jakarta, in the middle of the city surrounded by shops, malls, people, we rarely do much on weekends. Now that our house is bigger and more space for everyone, I want to stay home even more. 🙂

Saturday: after my run, husband and I went to the local farmer’s market (it’s soooo good! I’ll take pic next time) to get fresh produce, eggs, chicken. Meanwhile Sofia and Lizzy had online piano and mandarin lessons. Then I tackled my over due to-do list for couple hours, including March finance, paying taxes, and review 25 goal list. Sofia googled how to grow plants here while husband made chicken soup.

we ate leftovers for lunch and I spent 2.5 hours in bed, napping and reading. Then I got up and played UNO with the girls, went to groceries store for Sofia’s baking project, girls made a piece of painting, and I made cheesy egg sandwich for dinner.

Sunday: I slept so so because I slept with Lizzy (birthday tradition!) and had to cover her up several times. Yet, my readiness level was high thanks to being day 7 of my period (peak of performance day usually). I went to the city park, ran 12 miles alone because girls joined me. They did tricycle while I ran 6 more miles. I was planning 16 max but it felt good and i kept going. After that, we went to have acai bowl. Lizzy commented: we come here few more times and then when they lady asks me what I want, I’d say “the usual!”. 🙂 It’s nice to become a usual customer somewhere 🙂

We got home almost 11am. Beatriz (our future full time helper) was working. I showered, ate my oatmeal, and got ready to go to a BBQ hosted by a colleague. We were the only invited family and it was nice to sit around the BBQ place, chat with the host while he cooked, girls exploring their garden, picked fresh coconut for our drink.

We left 4pm to go to a mall to buy more painting supplies. Got home 6pm, quite tired by then. We had fried rice made by Beatriz which was so good! I finally lied down in bed 7:30pm, feeling that rest is overdue. Ideally I like to take 1-2 hrs of chill time after a long run but i didn’t happen so I went to bed super early.

Monday: I took a longer meditation as I didn’t run. I love sunrise feeling. This is my view while meditating.

then the girls joined me, we chatted and then we went out for a morning walk. Found owl

jet with moon

Then I made a special breakfast for Lizzy and she made one for capybara

I tackled another to do list item before starting to prepare lunch for the family while kids did mandarin homework

lunch served: hainan chicken, salad, baked potato, corn

We took some rest before going for another groceries run (5 min away), then Sofia made cookies, I had a massage to end this long weekend.

I like that we are getting back our old routine and adding new ones such as walks around the neighborhood in the AM or PM. I also like that girls get to do outdoor activity on Sundays after my long run.

Recharged for the short week before I head to DC for a week biz trip.

  1. It is a nice feeling to have a ‘usual’ order and get to know the employees of a stand. I used to get a latte every day when I worked for Target years ago and they knew my order. Then I switched to only getting a latte once/week and I haven’t been well known anywhere since! But that was a good decision as the cost of those lattes added up!!
