May recap & June intentions

I skipped recapping March and April as they were months in transition. May was still a month in transition but felt more home than before.

Favorite moments

  • Girls making art as gift. I love the two sets of painting they made for mother’s day gift. I will keep them for a long time as they are beautiful, peaceful (both beach theme), and thoughtful.
  • Cooking in our open kitchen. There are many parts of our house that I love, kitchen being the most as I love making food for the family while they are around me doing their things. The view from the kitchen to the pool is so peaceful.
  • Time machine moment. Opening our storage unit from 8 years ago was quite an experience.
  • Solo dates with Sofia on Sundays. I absolutely love our solo hours while exercising, either jogging, biking, and having breakfast together. The conversations that came out of that were priceless.
  • Solo dinner date with hubby. The unexpected solo dinner as we skipped a party.
  • Found a new morning running route. It’s quiet, it’s a loop, it shows me the beautiful morning sky.
  • Found our 2014 year end recap. It was exactly 10 years ago that hubby and I answered a set of questions. It was fun to see that some values and hopes remained the same, some goals were achieved. It was also nice to realize how much we have grown as couple.

Books: 3.

The berry pickers. 3/5. It is a nice engaging story about family, identify, reunion.

Marriage Psychology (a chinese book). 4/5. I found it in my bookshelf (from 8 years ago!). Every now and then I like to read about elements of a healthy and comforting marriage. It is easy to drop that ball when I get busy and prioritize the girls. I know I need to be reminded how much a healthy family dynamics depends on loving relationship with my husband.

How will you measure your life 5/5. paper copy that I bought in 2016. I absolutely loved it! I love the structure of the book, every chapter has a theme that is illustrated with a story in the biz world followed by takeaways and summary. So many wisdom to be reminded in midlife. I didn’t want it to finish.

the two non fiction books were read during morning reading time, usually 15-20 min. I am surprised how much I can read with consistent 15 min in the morning.

Running. 140 miles. 6 runs a week in average. I had definitely used running to cope with mental stress (work related). I would have over done it without a coach. I had weeks without strength training while running a lot resulting in muscle soreness. I also fell during a week, fortunately it didn’t affect my running. I am really enjoying Brasilia running environment. The air is cool and fresh, the temperature is low (50-60s) in the morning, zero pollution. the only issue is altitude, 3000 feet, that so far didn’t seem to affect too much.

Strength: 2-3 sessions when I was not traveling at our office gym.

Stretching: 21 days of daily stretching since I started the 100 days stretching project. I love it. On days that I don’t go to office, I do it right after my run or shower. On other days I do it after work or before bed. Duration ranges, from 10-20 min, some days I’d do double session incorporating mobility as well.

May was a month of settling down and finding our new family routine in Brasilia. We gravitate toward early bed time, cooking a lot on weekends, and outdoor activities in nature.

June intentions:

  • Start summer vibe while girls finish school while I still work.
  • Enjoy family trips to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.
  • Continue with daily stretching, morning non fiction reading, Sunday solo date with Sofia, open space on weekends.
  • Try joy journaling in my 5 years journal.

  1. Your running consistency is so impressive! 140 miles besides family and work, that’s no small feat! I’m also aiming for a daily 15-minute stretch, but realistically it turns into 5 times a week on a good week. Still, I’ve found even that makes a difference.
Love how you’re fitting it in around your day – morning, evening, whatever works. Well done!

  2. That is a lot of miles and running! But I am glad you are enjoying such gorgeous running weather! And no air pollution! I bet that is something you especially appreciate after experiencing bad air quality in Malaysia!

  3. Your exercise is always so impressive. Do you notice the mental benefits as well? I would love to read about your growth in exercise through the years.
