Bests of our weekend

As I mentioned my weekend started on Friday as I worked from home. I really enjoyed reading this book with the view of our garden and pool.

When I work from home, I usually grab whatever I can assemble for lunch with leftovers or freezer meals. This one had rice, beans, roasted veggies with tomato sauce. It is nourishing and exactly what I craved.

Saturday started with a great 16 miles easy run. I love how freeing I felt when my body was on the autopilot mode. I listened to this episode and really grasped the power of meditation and the three types that could be beneficial for me. I am already doing breathing meditation, I could try visualization and mantra. The moment of chaos or uncertainty, I am meditating and running more than ever to be grounded and remain calm.

I did some LA trip planning: flight booked, disney package booked, Sofia will help with planning the rest.

The outing of the day was Ifly, indoor flying simulator. Girls were super excited and enjoyed the 2 minutes flying experience. It looked fun but to me it’s not as attractive as it’s an indoor activity.

Sunday was my solo exercise date with Sofia. We did 10 miles bike ride in a leisure pace while chatting. It was the perfect setting for her to share. I asked her what are the differences she finds about her friends in Brazil vs. in Asia. She said: she likes her friends here as they are more confident, careless (they don’t care about clothes nor put on makeup as most of the girls in Asia do), and just more relaxed overall.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING to hear. I knew Asia culture tends to be serious, puts a lot of emphasis on appearances and grades, while being more shy and outspoken. I wanted her to be exposed to the opposite, which is how I grew up. I was soooo thrilled to hear her say that’s her impression of them and actually likes them being that way.

Lizzy and grandma joined us for breakfast at the botanic garden

then we explored the garden for a while as it has some play area.

Girls had a late lunch/snack at our terrace, pretending they are at a picnic. So cute.

I ventured out with daddy to the groceries store DRIVING MYSELF. I started practicing driving in our neighborhood on Friday and Saturday, by Sunday I felt I was “ready” to drive to the main road?! and I did! muscle memory and reflection is coming back slowly. I hope I’d be ready for LA driving in a month time.

I spent the afternoon baking and cooking. Lizzy joined me and made strawberries kebab

Sofia also made a fancy dessert, three layer pie.

I made 2 banana breads as the one I made on Friday was almost finished by Sunday, a yogurt lemon cake, and a aduki bean rice cake. Also prepared dinner

I had my weekly massage while chicken was baking and then we had dinner: big salad, sweet potato, bruchetta, chicken with veggies.

It was an active and fun weekend. There are still pending tasks to do like claiming shipment insurance for broken items, donate the books, pay bills, etc. Weekend is too fun to be dealing with those boring tasks though. I should stop adding them to my Sat-Sun to-do list. Maybe I should reserve few hours in Friday to tackle them. Batch boring household task, do you do that?

  1. I should not have read this post, Coco. I am hungry and all the food looks SO good!! Did you bake a whole banana in the top of that loaf of banana bread? If so, I have never seen that done, ever, but it sounds brilliant!

So many fun adventures. I’m glad the girls are settling in and finding new friendships.

The outdoor (and indoor flying) activities sound great.

And gold stars for driving. I’m very confident in small towns and on main highways, but navigating cities of any size really stresses me out!

  2. Sounds like a wonderful weekend! You really seemed to enjoy that book with your garden view – would you recommend the book? Going by the title, it looks interesting.
That 16-mile run on autopilot sounds fantastic, and meditation is clearly working well for you. Sofia’s thoughts about her friends made me smile – just the relaxed vibe we hope for young kids!
Huge respect for driving yourself already! I hardly drive in Cape Town – I really need to change that.
