Dream comes true: family in Buenos Aires

This has been my dream or plan for years. Since girls were little I told them about my growing up in Buenos Aires. But no stories compare to really be here. Since we lived in Asia, it’s very far to bring them to Buenos Aires, so quietly I had planned to get the next job after Jakarta to be somewhere in Latin America, close to Buenos Aires, so I can take them to get to know my identify, or part of it.

After a lot of hard work and stress, I got the best job I could hope for in Latin America, including a big promotion before the window closed, dream team and dream office space that comes with a full gym and meditation room. The cherry on the top is coming to Buenos Aires, direct flight, 3.5 hrs. The ticket is expensive but it’s soooo easy to come.

So here we are, after hipcup, we are finally here!

Girls trying out all my favorite childhood snacks

Trying authentic empanadas and asado

Exploring kiosko and getting everything that looks good

Browsing through my favorite bookstore

Explore local playground

Second day: I started with a quick run and my heart was smiling 😊 then we met with the first family we met 35 years ago when we landed as immigrant family for breakfast

Facturas and submarinos , more snacks while walking through Lavalle full of souvenir stores

And one of my favorite shopping malls

Revisiting my favorite vegan restaurant turned into a fancy vegan Asian restaurant. I almost cried how sad it’s no longer there

Oh well… more and more to explore. And we already decided to come back in September. I didn’t sign up for the marathon until I get to feel the city again. Now I’ve paid and all confirmed to join the Buenos Aires marathon because it would be so romantic to run one in my favorite city in the world right? And more excuse to be back. Buenos Aires is as charming as it has ever been!!!

  1. This is such a beautiful full-circle moment, Coco! I can feel how much it means to you to share your Buenos Aires roots with your girls. Walking the streets, tasting childhood snacks, revisiting old favourites (even if a few have changed!).
I love that you’re planning a marathon there! Can’t wait to follow along in September!

  2. This is wonderful! I’ve never been to BA- everything looks so interesting. The mall, the bookstore- now I want to go. I’m glad you’re enjoying it so much, and how exciting, a September marathon in your home city! I hope the girls are having fun.

  4. So happy for you! Glad you get to get back “home”. Ivan really wants to go to Buenos Aires, but weather wise it looks chilly there in the summer (makes sense- their winter!). I think maybe I’d like to try and go in spring or fall!
