HIGHLIGHTS OF MY WEEK

Organize a birthday celebration for a team member. Nothing fancy, just a cake, candle and gathering in the office for the birthday boy (40!).

Tasting the kimchis I made and absolutely love them. I also gave some to colleague friend and Sofia shared it with her friends during lunch. They asked for more.

A spontaneous call to mom when waiting for husband to pick me up. She was thrilled.

Meeting Sofia’s classmate’s mom who’s from Uruguay for coffee. It was a nice 2.5 hrs chat in Spanish and get to know her.

LOWLIGHTS OF MY WEEK

Felt out of breath on Wednesday run, had to cut it 0.5 mile short, and not clear why.

Feeling sleepy 3 out of 5 days. Not particularly tired, just sleepy all day long. The only thing that kept me awake was work.

READING

Finished the girl on the train. Amazon tells me that I bought it in 2015. Maybe I would have liked it more then. Should I watch the movie?

WATCHING

“Hostage” on Netflix. 3 episodes watched while eating early dinner alone.

LOOKING FORWARD TO

Girls’ first swim competition in Brasilia on Saturday.

My first running race (18km) in Brasilia with few colleagues at work.

Birthday brunch of my colleague on Sunday.

Few articles that I liked:

How to make conversation to connect. The key is not overthink it. I am practicing at work. Today when getting a coffee at coffee room while another person is making one. I asked him how many coffee does he drink a day. He said: 2, from this machine. 🙂

Being one’s own PR. Lifting others is what I am working on mindfully.

Family travel planning rules. I noticed that I am more relaxed planning now than before. Maybe I will try her approach to go to another level. I especially like: “I love travelling with my kids not just because it’s exciting, but also because those are the moments that bond us most tightly. The intimacy of spending all that time together, in such close proximity, cut off from the rest of the world and our ordinary routines, while relying on each other for entertainment, assistance, and advice, seems to result in deeper conversations, shared memories, a plethora of inside jokes, and more belly laughs than we’d have at home, where countless other distractions compete for our attention.”

Running the original marathon, alone. Discipline needs to be paired with wisdom.

  1. That was so nice of you to throw a little party for your colleague. 🙂 I’m sure he appreciated that!

I know I read The Girl on the Train and I watched the movie, too, though I can’t remember all the details right now. I think I liked them both okay but found it kind of strange/ disorienting? I think it gave me sort of creepy vibes.

Exciting to have the girls back in swim meets! Asher’s been on break from swim- they always have the whole month of August off. He’ll start club team back up I think next week, and then his high school season will begin in November, which he’s REALLY looking forward to!

  2. Oh, I just finished Hostage, it was good! I watched it in French with English subtitles, hoping to count it as a French lesson.

I hope you get some good rest today and that you will feel more refreshed in the new week!

  3. You have some good things to look forward to! Actually- I think they already happened. Hope everything went well.

I know that sleepy feeling, and it’s not fun. Since I have an active job I don’t always notice it- but then when I sit down I can tell I need a nap! My sleep has been a little off ever since school started.

I hope you have a good week!

  4. I read The Girl on the Train when it was a buzzy new release and I really liked it! I feel like that was one of the first books with an unreliable narrator. Now that is fairly common in books!

Sorry to hear about feeling out of breath. Maybe your body is fighting something since you’ve felt tired too.
