Random updates

The rest of our weekend went smooth, despite I had to work half of Saturday. While we waited for Sofia to come back, Lizzy helped me make chicken milanesas. Yes! she did all the steps!

Cookie and Bubble had a HUGE fight that ended up with blood and two lost nails from Cookie who attacked Bubble. Bubble came out unharmed, not even fussed. We took Cookie to vet and she is with antibiotics and collard. Sigh… Cookie even pee on Bubble, thus we had to bath her. Fortunately she didn’t complain and looked funny for a couple of hours.

My long run went well but my knee started to bother again after the run. Sigh… I have officially informed my coach that I’m taking an unstructured running/coaching break, until further notice. Most likely until i have signed up for another marathon sometimes next year. Until then, I’ll run for leisure, for the mental therapy aspect, and really get back to strength training. This is a broken record, sigh. Maybe I should do weekly “workout” update to keep me accountable.

Another change: we are testing a full time helper this week. After several weeks of stressful work load and the need to cook for the family when I get home, which added even more stress, I’ve decided to get a full time helper so I can go home when I can, not feeling stressed out for not having food on the table, and to get to a tidy home after a full day of work, not having to argue with kids/spouse who to clean the dishes. I found this lady through a recommended agency. Today’s her second day which is already quite effective. Hopefully this works out.

I am “excited” for our upcoming trips.

October: Peru (Cusco Inca trail and few days in Lima); a work trip to São Paulo, followed by work trips for 1.5 weeks to the north east part of the country.

Nov: work trip, swim competition trip to Campo Grande with Lizzy for 4D3N, and 5D4N trip to Trancoso.

December: arriving Buenos Aires on Christmas. The rest needs planning still but most likely travel northeast part of Argentina, ending the trip at Iguazu.

What else? I had a big change of view of my manager, who turned out to be a micro-manager. Sigh…. I ended up working Monday 5:30-7:30am to finish a document with too much red changes by the manager. Not what I expected. I kept telling myself, that’s first time manager syndrome. Her action reflects more her insecurity than my incompetence. If there’s one silver lining of this is that I will not be a micro manager if I ever come one. Do I even want to be a manager? I realize maybe I don’t. I get more joy thinking about ideas, developing ideas, communicating ideas, than doing admin staff and fighting with others.

Lastly, I am reading A separation, another book of Katie. For some reason, I don’t feel engaged. I am 60% in, I’ll finish it but so far this has been my least favorite book of her.

That’s all for now. Hope you are having a great week.

  1. Ugh- cat drama. WHY can’t they all just get along??? I hope Cookie is okay. I would say I hope she’s learned her lesson (since she’s the only one who got hurt) but unfortunately cats don’t think that way. I hope you can find a way where everyone can live in peace.

Sounds like you have drama all around, with work and running as well. It sounds like you’re doing the exact right thing for your knee- more strength training is almost always the answer. And- great job recognizing the underlying cause of the micromanaging. I have no desire to be a manager- I’m pretty sure it’s much harder than it looks!

  2. My friends who have gone on to be managers have always hated it. One told me that what she enjoyed about it was helping newer/younger employees to grow in their capabilities, and she is much happier now that she is no longer a manager and is a mentor instead.

Oh, I’m sorry about the cat fight! Cats can be rough. I’m glad that Bubble is OK, I hope Cookie will be soon.

I think your decisions about running/strength training/full time helper all make good sense. My mom was a single mom and could not afford help, and she always said what she needed was a wife. Sexist by today’s standards, but yeah…someone to have the house neat and the food cooked is HUGH and will bring more peace to the household.
