Temporary routine following travel

This week Sofia was in Panama for her first international MUN conference. She seems to be having fun. The organizers are really good at keeping parents updated everyday, several times a day, which is assuring. The house is super quiet when there is only one kid at home. Even the evenings feel less chaotic, rushing. It may also be because the new lady prepares dinner and the house is clean and tidy the moment I come back, which has been later than usual. Yet, by 7pm, I felt like we had an extra hour to do something, which feels luxurious, well, it is!

Bubble got much bigger just over the 10 days we were away. She looks big right? she’s still playful and loves us rubbing her belly. Super cute. Cookie on the other hand got extra stress out as Sofia stayed home only for the day and left again. Cookie probably is confused why Sofia is not home while the rest of us are back. Her relationship with Bubble has not improved. Maybe they are never going to co-live.

Work has been busy but I tried to follow the relaxed feeling, nothing to be rushed, take my time to finish/talk/listen/read. As result, I’ve been sleeping very well and rested.

I did MRI for both knees on Monday, just to be sure that we are okay to run again. The knees felt weird after inca trail so I was really concerned that I did further damage. I’ll see a knee doctor with my MRI results when I come back from two weeks of trip again. Meanwhile I ran 3 days in a row, easy run, 5 miles, and felt so grateful to be on the road again, without pain or discomfort. Hopefully I am cleared to run normally again. I’ve also been up doing my strength, twice in the office gym this week and once at home. I am committing to keep it up even while traveling.

This weekend Lizzy has a local swim meet up, then Halloween party at school. I don’t have anything planned other than rest/read/sleep, and make something yummy for fun!

Watching: The diplomat season 3 (loved it!)

Finished this book which is interesting, 3.5/5.

Made a potato, leek, broccoli soup, so comforting.

Q: What’s your favorite soup? I love anything that has potato in it.

  1. I have a red lentil soup that is amazing. Also tomato, also squash. So many good soups.

Coming home from work and not feeling like you are starting your second shift of work is amazing, right? We have an only child, so I don’t know exactly what is so different when you have just one kid home, but I know other bloggers have talked about it. And actually, I remember it when I was growing up, how different the house felt when my brother was gone.

  2. I hope there isn’t anything structurally wrong with your knee! Good luck with your appt.

I am glad your days have felt a bit more leisurely when you get home from work. It’s nice to feel like you have more time to enjoy.

Culpability is one of the books I am considering suggesting when our book club votes on our 2026 reads!

  3. I love ALL THE SOUPS (but especially tomato and everything with potatoes! I also think leek is a very underappreciated vegetable!).

    Your kitties are so cute!
