We had a “boring” weekend which means, chill, relaxing, opens space, yummy food, naps. As I am making “running” boring to nurse/heal my knees before start of serious training, the concept has spilled to other areas too. Boring is good, no news is good news. I enjoy this quiet season more than I thought I would.
Friday started with a biking class after I dropped off the girls. Friday is cross training day and I wasn’t feeling uplifting so I thought a group class with good music was perfect for the occasion and it delivered.

I ended Friday with 2 hours mani/pedi, did a fancy Gel polish called Russian method, which means before applying polish, they put transparent gel onto the nails to make it stronger?! Will see how long it lasts.
Saturday was swim meet up, first of the year. Only Lizzy attended as Sofia was at MUN. I went to see Lizzy after my 6 miles run and decided to stay home for nap in the afternoon as I felt tired for mysterious reasons.

Sunday started with a run at my usual route. Given my fatigue the day before I wasn’t sure how long I’d run but I needed to run even if it’s 20 min. To my surprise, I felt good and finished 9 miles.
The rest of the day was spent on groceries errand with Lizzy, made pork ribs for lunch, baked 2 recipes from the book I’m trying to go through, and mango coconut pearl for dessert for the girls. I also took a nap, read in bed, biked with the girls, and planned out my week ahead.
As I was figuring out the reason of my physical fatigue, I realized that I was consuming more news/social media this past week. My oura readiness has gone below 80s most of the days, and the more I see it, the more anxious I guess. Thus I will go analog for a week. What does it mean?
- I blocked social media on my phone
- I leave my phone charging in my office after I get home
- I will not check oura score although I will continue to wear it
- I will write down how I feel, physically and mentally, on paper
- I will either do yoga or foam rolling every day before bed
- I will mediate AM and PM, even if it’s 5 min
- I will bring a book/kindle with me everywhere
Here’s the theory behind all these actions. The amount of information I was surrounded by, unconsciously was making me anxious and stressed, which affected my physical wellbeing. Reading low readiness score (especially low HRV) stressed me even more, adding to anxiety for the rest of the day.
Thus, this reset would be an experience to test the theory.
I will report back.
I was just thinking how boring my life feels right now. Train, eat, sleep, repeat. But you’re right, quiet and steady actually feels really good sometimes!
Nice job on those runs, especially the surprise 9 miler after feeling tired. Such a great confidence boost!
Your analog reset sounds brilliant. I’m not on social media at all apart from blogging and life feels calm and peaceful. That’s probably why I don’t listen to anything while I run. I like being fully in the moment.

“Boring” can be very, very good! You obviously needed a reset. Yes, report back on your experiment- I want to hear how it goes. I hope you feel better this week!

I like boring 😉 I think often times our lives are not boring enough… we’re so used to this overstimulation! I am really curious how the analog week will effect your readiness score!
