Count down starts & a pebble

Just few days away from going back home. The summer fun is unwinding and I am a bit sad already… but we will recreate it next year! 🙂 I had a feeling that we will have to replicate it given how much we love our stay and our routines, after picking up Sofia on Friday, I am even more certain WE HAVE TO COME BACK!

Last day of full day for Sofia and she sent me this pic. An iconic post for our vacations, usually on the beach but she found a pool

Wednesday run left me with bothered left knee, then I checked my shoes and it was due to retire. It had 400 miles and very much gone left heel. Right heel was still okay but the minor difference seemed to cause my knee issue. I ran with a new pair the next day and felt much better

Lizzy and I went back to my friends’ house. She is so comfortable with her girls now that immediately went to play with them the moment we stepped in.

then I also fell in love with Bella

she’s so friendly and fun

Friday after I dropped Lizzy at the camp I went to pick up Sofia. I gave her space until last minute with her friends. I had conference with her instructor and assistant. They praised extensively about sofia, which obviously me very proud mom.

when we were leaving, her roommate (who we had doubt at first sight) rushed to hug Sofia

Husband arrived Brasilia on Friday morning after 36 hrs of travel time. Then he couldn’t find the cats and panicked!!! A while later, he found Bubble hiding in a weird place and didn’t come out until evening. Clearly she was depressed/scared!

Then Lizzy got “depressed” for a while

Saturday I dropped Lizzy at my friends’ place to continue their playdate, while I took Sofia for her beloved chipotle and shopping

shopping was productive, Sofia got many things she wanted. Once we got back, girls did nails. They had a lot to catch up and they did.

Bubble is finally calm and herself, even more attached to daddy than before

same with Cookie, clearly she missed us. She stayed in his belly for hours

Saturday we stayed up late to watch Argentina Switzerland. What a game and scare!!!

Sunday we were planning to go to the zoo but then got disrupted as I received a text from our helper that she is resigning. Sigh… good riddance, too many back and forth with her, so it’s okay to let her go. Time to find another one. This is the pebble of this week, inconvenience for sure especially as we will travel within Brazil for one week vacation and the cats need some care. Sigh…. we are exploring options for the cats, and will start the process for hiring another person.

We had chipotle again, and then went to visit an old family friend who we met in Manila and endured covid together. Girls played with their daughter, they were friends in Manila, while I catch up with my colleague friend about moving back to US and their life/routine.

We travel on Thursday morning. So just few more days. Will make the best of it.

  1. Enjoy these last few days together! It really sounds like DC has become your summer home—you’ll have to go back next year!
That worn left heel really caught my attention. If you consistently wear down that same side, it might be worth showing your worn shoes to an orthopedist. I’m wondering if there’s a connection between the uneven wear pattern and the knee that’s been bothering you.
Years ago I had the same issue with unevenly worn shoes, along with constant Achilles tendonitis. My orthopedist actually asked me to bring my old running shoes to the appointment, and custom-made insoles completely solved the problem.

    1. Thanks Catrina. This is a great advice. I’ll show it to an orthopedist.
In your case was it a physical imbalance like leg length or muscle imbalance that caused it?

      1. Good question! It was a mix of things: imbalance in strength (right leg was stronger), weak calves and weak glutes compared to the quadriceps. In my case, a difference in leg length was not an issue.

      2. They go together – to this day, I do specific heel lifts on a slanted board every day to keep the Achilles tendon and calves strong. That and the insole really helped.
The strength training that you’re already doing at the gym is definitely very important. Plus the specific exercises that your doctor recommends.

  2. Wow this time really sped by! I’ll bet you’re sad to have it end. It looks like the girls both made new friends this summer! Maybe you didn’t take as many trips this summer, but this DC experience sounds like it was an adventure for everyone. Safe travels home!!!

  3. I love DC, I’m glad that you enjoyed it and wow, three weeks of camp must have been amazing for your daughter. Like it makes her feel grown up, but also she probably missed you all too.
