We have a long weekend that started on Friday. I have a problem to manage my energy level I think. Let me explain.
Friday I went to the gym with husband, came back and started making chicken nugget with Lizzy. She made two gigantic ones for daddy

I also made bagels per Sofia’s request. Then made empanadas filling before taking the girls to swim practice and came back home 7pm.
Saturday I did my run, then started making bagels that were cold fermenting in the fridge

and made 44 empanadas and lasagna

and made lunch for Sofia’s friend who specifically asked to come earlier for lunch, she loves my cooking. I made beef stew

then at 1pm her other friends came for the playdate. I took 1 hrs reading time while they played

Sunday I had my long run, then swim at the gym, and continued making food (vegan frittata, chickpea curry, soy yogurt), and finished 2pm exhausted. I rested for an hour before starting to work on test prep with Lizzy (she wants to join Sofia’s camp next summer). At 5pm my massage therapist arrived and gave me peaceful an hour of non-physical nor mental work. Then Lizzy and I worked a bit more until 7pm.
I got into bed, physically and mentally exhausted. Nothing hurt in particular, but exhausted.
I didn’t sleep well, I could feel my readiness was low. Oura confirmed that i was at 67.
I meditated for 15 min and decided to take Monday (holiday) SUPER chill!
I took Sofia to swim practice, 7am. She didn’t love the idea nor complained much although it was her first morning training in Brasilia. She used to practice 545am in Jakarta. I told her she’d feel better after the swimming, and she did, even hinting that she’d prefer morning practice.

Meanwhile, I slowly ate my packed oatmeal, coffee, and finished this book during the 2 hours practice. I bought this book in 2013, and finally made it through and so glad I did.

the rest of Monday was to continue studying with Lizzy, making up sample exercise with AI, making the process as “fun” as it could get. I even did the quiz with her on verbal and got the same score! That made her feel better I think, that it’s hard or at least not obvious. Overall we worked over 4 hours and we both felt accomplished. While she did the exercise, I read, relaxed, ate copious food/snacks. Then we re-arranged the room I am sleeping and made it super cozy. I went to bed 7pm and read until 8:20pm with the girls visiting me to say goodnight.
It was the perfect rest day I needed: relax, slow movements, lots of re-fuel, and early bed time. I always get super hungry the day after the high activity day. All the food I prepped before were handy to grab.
Do you have problem staying in still? I don’t need to be productive but feel physical need to move/do things. As my training load increases in the next two moths, I’ll have to be extra mindful of energy management outside of running.
I wish I could say I have this problem! I have no problem resting. I love being active, and then being super lazy, reading or napping on the couch. The problem is I don’t get as much done- all that food prep you do!!! I’m resting instead of doing that- and we never have anything to eat. Sooooo…. there has to be a compromise somewhere!

Your schedule is intense, Coco! And I can totally understand Sofia’s friend wanting to eat your food – I love your food, too, even if I can only look at the pictures!
Maybe your need to move outside your training will naturally decrease as your training load increases?
I don’t really feel the need to exercise outside my training, but then again, my programme is pretty heavy. Yesterday, for example, I had a 22 km morning fast run, strength training, and another fast 9 km in the afternoon. By then, I’m quite happy to just lie down and do nothing!

I do not have a hard time relaxing overall. I feel like I have a super full, busy life so if I have time in my schedule to lay down and read for 2 hours, I am going to do that. I like to take “shouldless” days once/quarter. Having that boundary of the day being “shouldless” helps me not let the “shoulds” creep into the day. I also remind myself that we are human BEings, not human DOings.

So much food prep! But it all sounds delicious.
I like to move but I also like to rest and I am happiest when I find a good balance. I am getting better at not being “productive” all the time (what does that even mean), although I do tend to feel like I “waste” time when I am not productive.
