Things I did over the weekend

New running milestone: this Sunday for my “long run” I did 8.32 miles!!! πŸ˜€ My original plan was 6-7miles to follow the 10% rule. But since the other running family decided not to run, I had to run with Sofia for 20 min so ended up doing over 8 miles. I felt sore legs but my heart and lung seem fine. A big help for this run was the episode I listened, it’s about Insulin resistant, how it works (based on experiment), and what we can do to avoid/revert it. My latest obsession with health guru is Peter Attia. He’s a doctor who’s obsessed with prolonging life and health span. πŸ™‚

I took Saturday as resting day as I woke up tired after two nights of so so sleep. I asked hubby to basically take care of the girls activities. He kindly took them to soccer (Lizzy finally joined!!!), golf, and pool. What did I do to completely relax? I watched Succession season 3. This series is sooooo good. I watched 5 episodes on Sat and 3 on Sunday to finish.

I did prepare a good lunch for the family though, and made 3 types of sweets on Sunday. One thing that I enjoy doing alone is bake/cook, it’s just a relaxing activity, it felt indulgent. πŸ™‚

Hubby went out to play golf with his friends on Sunday afternoon so I spent the afternoon with girls alone, doing homework, play, had home made ice cream and treats! Really low key but nice.

Last week before school/work break!!! Go go go!

  1. Wow! That’s a long run! Glad you’re feeling okay and have been able to ease back into running longer and longer distances.
That length feels a long way off for me; honestly, I’m not sure I’m going to get back up to that mileage again. But I’m telling myself that’s okay. I think I’m going to focus more on some strength training in the new year, with a few short runs (5K or less) each week. It’s mostly about the time restraints at this point; I’m not willing to move my life around enough to accommodate long runs…just feels like a season of life where I have to be content with shorter distances (especially on the treadmill with the bad weather lately).

And I’m off to do a bit of baking this afternoon. Candy cane shortbread; two people in my house HATE mint and candy cane, but I love it and never bake with it because then I figure I’ll be one of the only people eating it, but this year I’m going to treat myself to a 1/2 batch. I’ll give some away, but am telling myself to enjoy the flavours of the season πŸ™‚

  2. Ahh that all sounds so nice. I was just telling my husband how I really don’t mind that it gets dark here so early in the winter, but it just makes me feel sleepy/lazy. Like I just want to lay around and watch a show! So that sounds amazing to do by yourself like that.
