Solo weekend: social, self care, TV

I am enjoying my solo time a lot. To start, I woke up Saturday at 4:30am, and went back to bed 6am to read and nap, and got up only 8am. This unstructured time is preciousness. That is the main change on how my days went without the family. I have no schedule, I go with the feel, I don’t need to keep track of time passed in one activity, and I have zero guilt doing all of the above. πŸ˜† hahahah…. It will be a harder adjustment when the family comes back in August. Back to “normal” routine after I went off the road. hahaha

Saturday: after my morning nap, I did an hour yoga, loved it! It reminded me to do more of long yoga sessions. Then I got ready to meet with my colleague friend who took me to by batik fabric first at a local market. Then we had lunch at a local place, overload of MSG (noodles with meatballs and wonton), then she took me to her tailor. Such a small shop in a local mall. She has been his client for years, so I trust he’ll do a good job.

I decided on a set, a jacket and a skirt. It was not easy to find a fabric that is batik enough while not too shinny nor busy. I was happy to find the one, recommended by my friend. I’ll show you once it’s done in one week.

I got home 3pm, started working succession. I wanted to watch it for a while but never got the time/patience to watch. Now it’s the perfect timing.

Around 6pm, I made myself a large salad to compensate for the MSG lunch that made me feel not so good. To pair the salad, I had two sweet potatoes. Obsessed with steamed sweet potatoes.

Sunday: I woke up with some belly discomfort. I think my body hasn’t pushed out the MSG processed food yet. I almost wanted to cancel my run. I rested for 30 min bed, it got a bit better so I went out to meet with my friend for our jog. He did 5k and turned back. I continued. I was planning to do 10 miles per my training, but decided to do 2.5 miles more to end my run with some quiet time and less noise. The main road was full of people and I got a mild headache to be surrounded by so many.

The day was super hot so when I finished, I was exhausted. We then meet up again with another friend who was running too for breakfast.

I wasn’t sure they’d have anything easy on stomach and appetizing after a hot run, so I packed sweet potatoes to avoid having to eat something that would make it worse. I was so glad. The place had salad (really not appetizing at that time), burger, burrito, or toasts. I went with a cappuccino with my sweet potato. Wise choice, although a bit odd to my friends.

after saying goodbye to them, I had my manicure appointment at 11am. I go every 4-6 weeks for gel manicure. I munched on more sweet potatoes and kind bar while doing it. The lady looked at me with odd expression, but I didn’t care.

to lessen my soreness, I went to a spa for 2 hrs massage. It was glorious!!!!

I got home 3pm and realized I haven’t even opened my journal yet. Unstructured to the max!!!

I watched few more episodes of succession, had dumplings for dinner. I went to bed 6:45pm and read until 8:15pm. Slept like a baby for the first time since the family left.

The girls are having a blast in China with grandmas spoiling them. That’s Lele, hubby’s parents dog who’s 17 years old.

I think I overshoot the first weekend, doing things that felt good at the moment, a lot of social time, selfceare, little reading and non of my to-do list. Maybe next weekend I’ll converge to something less of a dramatic change. πŸ™‚

  1. Loved reading your update. I am so happy for you and also jealous (in a good way). Sweet potatoes are king, I love them in any shape or form.
I know what I need to do- fall in love with running. How do I do that? πŸ™‚

  2. Bringing sweet potatoes with you reminds me of when my friend kept a baking potato in her purse during her pregnancy. She had awful nausea/vomiting and baked potatoes were one of the few things she could keep down for a while so she’d have one on her all the time as it’s easy to find a microwave and a simple meal. The time at the spa sounds especially nice! I need to book a massage for this summer. That’s my fave form of pampering.
