Ordinary Saturday

It was quite a normal swim meet up weekend Saturday.

I finished my long run which went just okay, never got the high feeling throughout the 12.2 miles for unknown reason but that’s okay. Went quickly to the market to get some veggies and cakes for the swim meet up to share with the group.

I arrived at the venue 9:05. Sofia first event already finished. This is absolute event meaning all kids aged 12 and above participated together. So it’s more one’s own race to your peers because one could be competing with a 16 years old.

The event organizer was super well organized and we finished morning events by 11am super early.

We got home, I reheated lunch for the girls and had my massage. Then we went back to the venue for the afternoon. This time Lizzy tagged along.

Sofia did 100 back and 50 fly in the afternoon, both getting PB by few seconds so she was happy.

I read my book while waiting and we left 5pm, again super early compared to other occasions.

Once home, I made dinner and now everyone was relaxing. Netflix for the girls while I’ll finish my book and go bed early. I need a good night sleep to recover. I need a good run tomorrow even if it’s short.

While I was struggling today running my easy run in a gorgeous setting and good weather, I kept telling myself how lucky I am to get to run. The image of the trail races from the book kept coming to me. Many of the ultra runners expect to get pain, actually they seek that state of pain to explore their limit. I was in no pain, just niggles here and there (first IT band, then inner knee, then left hip), and I remind myself again that it’s probably my mind doing the tricks.

Quote of today: if you are feeling down, and you’re feeling you are not going to be able to make it, don’t give up, because it can change.

So true. Many times during early miles of a long run, I wonder how can I keep struggling for so much more. The middles miles are the hardest for a run or race, and then suddenly with the end in sight/mind, I could find. Second wave of energy to push faster if not flying. Our mind is so powerful!

How was your Saturday? My weekends are usually filled with running, kids, and cooking. This weekend is mostly kids time as swimming meet up takes 1.5 days. I am happy to accompany them as we get to share car rides, wait time in between swims, and commenting on shared anecdotes.
