From Shanghai

I arrived Shanghai Tuesday 5:40am, overnight flight which never is pleasant but most effective way to give me buffer time.

I got home 8am, ate kabocha for breakfast and went to the government agency right away. 10:15am all was done and went very smooth. Such a relief.

I took a nap while mom made lunch. 3 vegetables dishes, she’s the best! Then we went to see the family dentist. I have a tooth that had root canal done a year ago and had on and off pain. The doctor in Jakarta said there’s a crack so needed to be extracted. I wasn’t sure and wanted a second opinion. Well, it’s confirmed that there’s nothing we can do to save the tooth, so I decided on the spot to get it out, with the doctor that I trust. Tooth extraction is never fun, while not painful, it was complicated as I had a crown and root canal treatment, so it took him a while to take everything out, hammer involved.

I was glad it was done to avoid any stress related it to in the next 1.5 months of traveling. The downside of this is that I can’t run for few days, although I felt fine. I was a bit disappointed not be able to run in this weather, 30s, but decided to see the bigger picture and took the time to fully rest.

After the tooth extraction, we met with my untie and cousin for dinner (well they had dinner I couldn’t). It was nice to chat with them, my favorite extended family.

I slept 12 hrs that first night. my oura readiness was low, I guess my body got the shock.

Wednesday: total free day. We met with my mom’s friend and her daughter for brunch. Then we went to have foot massage. I watched a lot of TV later that day.

Thursday: another 12 hrs of sleep, low oura readiness, mild headache. Finished packing and ready to go back home.

Short and sweet trip is concluding. Missing my family. This is likely to be my last trip to Shanghai for years to come. There’s not much that I miss the city except my mom. Good thing is that she will come to Jakarta in January while I go to the U.S. and Brazil, and she will go with us to Brazil for few months. So not really a goodbye with mom.

  1. So nice that your mom will be with your family in Jakarta and visit you in Brazil. That makes saying goodbye in Shanghai so much easier!

Have a good trip back home!

  2. OUCH on the tooth. I mean, it’s painful physically and financially, right? Dental work is always so expensive. You’ll be happy to see your family again… and you’ll see your mom soon. Safe travels!

  3. Oof. The tooth extraction sounded so painful. I am glad you were able to see a dentist you know and trust! And I am glad you will see your mom several times in the coming months! That makes the goodbyes more tolerable!
