Sunday moments and & rabbit holes

I didn’t allow myself to go to rabbit holes when I was younger if they were not for a purpose other than pure enjoyment. I am so glad that I overcame that fear now that I’m in my midlife. Indulge to rabbit holes is a form of selfceare 🙂

Rabbit holes could be an incredible opportunity to get obsessed, pure bliss.

My latest one this week came from after I read this book. I believe I first came across it from Tim Ferriss 5-bullet Friday. I listened it in few runs and got “obsessed” with it and went to the rabbit hole: first I read carefully this review of the book, and found the way they described the style of the author, that he must be a very gentle man. That’s a quite interesting description of the write’s character from his writing. It made me think what character do I project from my favorite writers?

Then I listened this interview and listened to his voice for the first time. And yes! He is definitely a gentle man. His voice is exactly how I expect him to be.

I then found his annual letters, so beautifully written with exquisite story and points made. He started in 2017, I read with chronological order and found him to mature over the 7 years he wrote the letters. He’s still very young and I am very impressed by how good of a thinker he is, and his ability to write beautifully while concise to complex concepts.

I watched this interview next and saw his facial expression and more his voice, consistent with his writing, both style and nuance. I was running while listened the first 30 min of the interview and he mentioned he loves Mozart. I wonder what would be running listening to Mozart, so I stopped, search Mozart running, and I found this:

I ran with it for 2 miles, thinking I was a bit crazy and adventurous at the same time.

I googled him to know about his background but didn’t find much. I am intrigued what shaped his world view.

I listened to two more interviews and found new insights and his background. I understood why his writing is so beautiful and fluid. He likes Mozart, Italian opera, and reads extensively and widely. When he was asked what’s writing for him: self enjoyment. He writes to express ideas, he writes to create a form of art, the sentences have cadence and rhythm.

I may continue this rabbit hole for few more days… weeks… and thrilled to be in this state of pure blissful rabbit hole.

Sunday moments:

7 miles solo run followed by 2 miles with Sofia per her request, and we did it in 20 min. She has got strong! Then Lizzy also wanted to run so we jogged around the neighborhood for 4 songs.

12pm: Lizzy cleaning the pool, Sofia catching Bubble who ran out to the garden, Daddy making BBQ for lunch

then the rain came

Orange glaze ribs, chicken drums for the family. I had rice, veggies, and Korean pan fried tofu.

Bubble also got a taste of the ribs

I took a nap after reading few of Dan’s annual letters, then massage.

I also decluttered, basically unsubscribed newsletters, YouTubers, instagrams, and blogs. I want to make space for more blissful moments like the latest rabbit hole. 🙂

  1. That is an enjoyable rabbit hole to go down! Mine tend to be more shallow but still run! Often it happens when we are watching a show and an actor looks familiar with me. So I will lookup the episode to find the actor’s name and then I read their Wikipedia page and see what else they’ve been in. Sometimes there’s something interesting in the Wikipedia profile to send some down another rabbit hole.
