Most of our summer with the girls have been about travel. Explore new places, expect new wonders, feeling the collective exhaustion, adjusting to new environment, shared adventures. This summer feels different. It reminds me of my childhood summer breaks when nothing happens but creative games we would do among kids (my cousins). I vividly recall my uncle creating challenges for the 4 girls aged from 10-14 a spot; how we would get so excited to wait untie to prepare sour scrambled eggs for our afternoon snack; the heat of the summer; the sound of the fans; and the rare occasion to explore the fruit market. I am sure I felt bored sometimes but mostly feeling relaxed and didn’t want it to end.
My girls probably would have very different summer memories than me, mostly filled with exotic trips, the constant packing and unpacking, and the comfort when we get back.
Until this summer: where new kind of memories are being formed. It has a good balance of structure (camps, office, walks), open space, exploration and routines.
The Argentina vs. Cabo Verde game was epic! I had my heart on my throat, yet inmense admiration of CV team especially the goal keeper. We felt so relieved and happy!

Saturday was sooooo hot! Yet, I enjoyed my 12 miles run

then we went to the mall with a friend and her niece and her little bf for some good AC and shopping. Then we had big bowl of cherries

Sunday the weather cooled quite a bit and I enjoyed another amazing run with this view isn’t it mystic?

I took Lizzy to eat her favorite dish: shrimp dumplings before going to stores for few returns.

and had to get a new shirt and jacket with the most beautiful lilac color!

sweet green salad with my little shopping buddy

then we took the train to virginia to visit a friend. We’ve been riding on public transportation for 3 weeks and lizzy even forgot we have a car back home.

I watched the brasilian game while Lizzy played with my friend’s kid, then dinner.

Monday the weather finally cooled down and we reallly enjoyed our 30 min walk to the camp. We get to talk whatever it’s in our mind: 3 wishes, the game she’s learning at the camp, weekend plans, etc, and at every traffic light, if it’s red, we hug! we are big into hugs.

I watched the Argentina Egypt game in the office, with a colleague friend. I almost lost hope after 2:0, then a colleague passed by and said: don’t worry, argentina always manages to come back. I am so glad he was right!
BIG emotions is what world cup gives me. I don’t recall last time I watched most of the games, likely because we were in Asia and the time different didn’t allow it. I love the experience, the emotional roller coaster, the shared joy watching it with the girls and friends, and the understanding of why we (argentinians) are so special and care so much about soccer. Argentinian soccer players are real testament of team players, they all support Messi to the last minutes, they feel proud to be argentinians, they don’t give up, they know back home millions of fans are watching and want to feel proud. The argentinians went through so many economic hardships, we need the miracle to keep hopeful for the future.
Today is the last day with Lizzy solo as tomorrow Sofia will reunite with us. I am looking forward to hear her thoughts about the camp, about living alone with new friends for 3 weeks, learning about economics, and living the campus life.
It seems like you were just dropping her off yesterday! Time flies. Sounds like a lovely chill summer so far.

So far, I haven’t watched a single match in full! By the time Switzerland plays, I’m already fast asleep. And the next match against Argentina kicks off at 3am on Sunday for us… there’s no chance I’ll be watching that one! 😄
But I’m pretty sure I’ll hear the result in the neighbourhood!

I’ve been watching SO many matches too! It’s been so fun! Yesterday there were no games and we all felt like something was missing! Haha. This sounds like a lot of special, fun time with you and Lizzy- she’ll definitely cherish these memories.

What a fun, special summer for your girls. Who I’m sure can appreciate all of these experiences more because of their ages, too.

AW! You hug at every red light- that’s so, so cute. Yeah, it’s been a long time since my prickly cactus of a daughter let me hug her. Sounds like you’ve been having a really nice time with Lizzy. I wonder if she’ll be happy to see Sofia, or if she enjoys having you all to herself!
I’m very glad it cooled down there! And, your running path looks amazing. Enjoy!

This is the first World Cup that I have watched since it’s been on during prime time and I have a soccer-obsessed kiddo. I was studying abroad in Australia in 2002 when it was hosted in South Korea/Japan so I vaguely remember watching some of the early matches. It’s been fun to watch with Paul and has resulted in a lot of sophisticated conversations about countries. He’s starting to learn about the concept of GDP thanks to the game “Wordle” as there is a multiple choice question about the country’s per capita GDP and another where you guess the country w/ the highest per capita GDP between the country of the day and its neighboring countries. So we had a long conversation about the difference in GDP between Argentina and Switzerland on Saturday night.
