We are more than half way through 2026 and August feels like a new beginning. This must be the sign of a well rested summer break.
In August, I am returning to few goal lists and tracking. Specifically, I want to get back to few grounding rituals:
- Meditation, morning 10+ min. Will aim to end the day with few min meditation but I find it hard when the house is full of people.
- Proper warm up and cool down after my runs.
- Evening stretching/yoga for unwinding and mobility work.
- Read upon waking and before sleep. Instead of grabbing my phone when waking up, I’d grab my kindle and read until it’s time to get up.
- Use my journal again, unload mental tasks into paper.
Other tasks:
- book annual check up for myself and husband
- book a movement assessment and/or VO2 max
- plan Sofia’s birthday party in September
- plan for 4 days trip to Florianopolis with the family where I’ll run the half as tune up race.
Physical update and upcoming racing plans
Not doing slimfit for 1.5 months led to niggles here and there almost in a weekly basis. When my PT did the assessment, she found I lost some hip mobility and my lower back area super tight. Thus, my focus on mobility and proper warm up and cool down above.
Thus I am determined to get back to strength training with slimfit which I genuinely enjoy and works wonders! I will also aim to do 1-2 times runner specific work after easy runs.
My tune up race is end of August and I will follow the training plan to the T. For the past 1.5 month, I’ve been loosely following, usually running more than prescribed (Rock Creek Park to be the reason), which coupled with lack of strength training, didn’t end up well and I felt my left knee complaining a bit lately.
New York marathon is less than 3 months away! I am super excited and a bit intimated as I haven’t done a full marathon for over 2 years now. My goal this time is to get to the starting line injury free, and my goal at the race is to ENJOY and have FUN!
Three months! It’s getting very close now!
I fully agree with you about the importance of strength training. When we transition from Cape Town to Zurich and vice versa, I sometimes have a couple of weeks of no strength training and it affects my running. I feel more injury prone and more “nigglish”.
Strength training is so, so important. Glad you can get back to it!

Yes, strength training- we have to do it! I’ve been slacking off the past couple of weeks (doing hip PT type exercises but not lifting weights) and I’m just getting back to it. Luckily you have a form of strength that you enjoy.
One thing I have been better at is stretching and mobility! My back gets super tight without it.
Ooooh, NYC marathon… so exciting. Yes, get there injury-free and then enjoy every minute of it!
