Delayed Friday favorites

I am clearly getting better at forgetting my phone, forgetting to take pics, and just live in the moment, absorbed by books, music, which is great.

I had almost none pics taken during this week which went by quickly.

Monday highlight was a visit to the hair transplant clinic with husband and he’s doing it! He has started with some shots on head (like botox) and 4 types of vitamins, to “prepare” the area, and will likely to have the procedure by end of November. This is a mature technology, I just learned, and a colleague friend of mine did it few months ago with great result.

I love that girls will have kumon right after school ends, so she can get back home by 5ish instead of 6ish. That means we have more time to hang out, have dinner together, even take a walk, before they do homework.

Husband had his yearly check up and I think due to lack of physical activity, his fatty liver has advanced, sigh…. so we are in discussion of being proactive about it. I just learned all about the danger of visceral fat. I’ll take him to a new gym near by that looks super fancy, hopefully he’s up to it. Despite not great health news, I am super glad that we have the means to proactively address it.

I had a chill WFH Friday. It was my rest day so I started the day baking bagels, starting a new book, while Sofia played her piano. Cookie is a music lover and always stays near by.

Cookie is the funniest cat. She caught a bug, made it semi-dead, and showed us, very proud of her catch. She also likes to wait me by the sink when I go to bathroom.

Staying at home means I made two vegan dishes, vegan frittata (with tofu, chickpea flour and tons of nutritional yeast), and vegan chickpea blondies (cooked chickpea, peanut butter, oat flour, protein powder). Husband had them and approved them. I realized that I rarely cook something special for me, as I spend most of the time meal prepping for the family. Trying up new vegan recipes made me so happy, I should do more of it!

New favorite books: I am only 10% and already like them. Getting to yes, and crossing to safety. Both physical books that I have for years. I am loving my little project of reading through my library. I may run out of them soon but that’s great. One night I was telling to Sofia how happy it makes me to find a good book that I look forward to read every day. She shared her favorites and that she likes series because she know she’ll have more to read.

Weekend plan; easy run, slimfit strength class, slimfit circuit (more like cardio and hiit), and seminars with physio about female pelvic health. It’s an event organized by slimfit. I love the community and woman centered talks. Sunday evening I’ll travel to São Paulo for a short business trip, coming back Tuesday morning.

How do you influence others for lifestyle changes without demanding it? I want to help in a respectful way.

Have you read Americanah? That is my favorite book of 2026 so far.

  1. I love Americanah! I actually accidentally reread it, it was years ago I first read it, then somehow I forgot (can I blame the pandemic? I’m blaming the pandemic), and I got it out at the library. The first few pages I thought “wait a minute, this is very familiar” and I looked it up on my spreadsheet. There it was, years back! It was definitely worth the reread!

  2. Good question about how to influence lifestyle changes!
My husband sometimes doesn’t feel like joining me, and I’ve found that the best approach is simply to go ahead with my own plan and let him decide. Sometimes I come home from a run and discover he’s gone to HIS gym, or he’s been out running HIS route instead. I’m fine with him doing his separate workout, as long as he’s moving. Mission accomplished! 😄
So I think your idea of taking your husband to the new gym sounds promising. Maybe he’ll discover that he actually enjoys it!

  3. I loved Americanah when I read it. That author is so talented! I’ve read a few of her other books and they are all great but Americanah is my fave of hers.

It is hard to influence another person to change their behavior unless they want to do it. Hopefully the info from the doctor appt will motivate your husband to start small and make some positive changes. Even starting by going for daily walks can make a difference!
