Sharing work story to Sofia & kids after school activities

I prepared breakfast for the kids as it was a non-running day. French toast for Sofia and toast with egg salad for Lizzy. I find amusing that Lizzy always “asks” her “children” to watch her eat. πŸ˜€

I had a productive day at work. I got an unscheduled call with my manager. These days, all meetings are usually scheduled, so it was odd that he’d just call me on the spot. But well.. the call went well and I did a big favor to a friend (K). K wants to move to my unit, he had approached to my manager but my manager refused to meet him. I’ve been dropping beans along the way to let my manager know how I enjoy working with K. During our call, I mention that K is leaving Jakarta soon and he seemed to got interested. I immediately took the opportunity to praise K’s work, noting that I don’t usually praise others, trying to convince him that I really mean it when I say K’d be a catch. Well…. the convincing was effective as they’ve scheduled to talk soon.

It made me really happy to have helped a friend, especially I know that the match will be beneficial to both parties. I shared the story to Sofia, as I often do, so she gets to understand working environment, relationships, conflicts, and wins. She was happy to hear my win of the day.

Second win of the day is that the girls had trial with a new mandarin teacher. Real success. Sofia described her as very professional, detailed oriented, explains very, kind and firm. She’s definitely expensive but I think it will be worth it.

I finally feel settled with after school activities. Quite a lot, but I’m happy with all the teachers they got. In summary, the girls are doing:

  • Kumon (math and reading). Goes to center twice a week
  • Mandarin (2 lessons): 1 online, 1 in person. Once we finish the online sessions, it will be just once a week in person class
  • Swimming (starting in September 11): 4 times (90 min two days, 2 hrs two days) for Sofia, 3 times for Lizzy (one private lesson, all 1 hour)
  • Chess once a week
  • Golf once a week
  • Piano once a week

They want to do even more like climbing, tennis, art. But I honestly don’t think they have time for more as they also need to play, relax, read.

  1. Lizzy’s children are so cute. Do they go everywhere with her? I had a lot of stuffed animals as a kid; there is just something so comforting as a friend around all the time, plus they are soft and squishy! I still have a few of them, although they are pretty beat up so I am not sure what I would do with them now, except to keep them as memories.

    1. she wishes to travel with them but we are minimalist packer so no, maybe a very small (piggy) one. I hope she continues this play for a long time. my older was never very attached to stuffed toys.

  2. I love that Lizzy still has her friends eat with her. That is how our youngest son is. He has to have his trucks by him when he eats and I will point them towards him and say they are “watching” him. He also sleeps with them. They are small matchbox sized trucks so don’t take up much space but he also sleeps with 3 other stuffies and some lovies that are more like a tiny blanket type of object. Paul also sleeps with 2 elephants. One is called “elphanty” and the other is elephanty’s mom. I will be kind of sad when he outgrows this stage of sleeping with them but maybe it’s further off than I think!

That was nice of you to help your friend K out but it sounds like a win/win for all!

I had to google kuman because I had no idea what that was. I don’t think it’s very prevalent in this region of the country!

  3. That is a lot of activities!! Wow. I am sure as they get older they will start narrowing down into things they want to pursue more deeply, and some things will go by the wayside. But it’s a very nice variety there of sports and academic type stuff. My kids really like to play chess. I have never heard of lessons for it around here, though.

Sooo nice of you to help your coworker! He will appreciate that so much.
