2024 goals and wishes.

World of year: OPENING. I realized in 2023 that learning about new ideas brought me a lot of joy. So, I want to expand my world by being open, ready to be blown away. Yet, I want to do it SELECTIVELY. It means that I want to be more mindful of what I am opening to, not just being exposed to things passively. I want to get to the habit of thinking about the tradeoffs, why do I want to learn about this? Is it interesting? Is it useful? Is it inspiring?

PERSONAL GOALS

  • Continue with mindfulness journey that I started in 2021. Meditate. Focus one task at the time. Minimize distractions.
  • Be aware of tradeoffs. Always ask the why before starting something new (book, article, music, podcast, projects, meetings, etc.)
  • Running: Set a new PR for my marathon.
  • Fitness: Continue strength training to slowdown muscle loss, avoid injury, and feel strong. Aim for 2+ times per week.
  • Diet: incorporate more protein.
  • Reading: read slow, take notes to fully absorb it. Read what gives me conform and what takes me out of comfort.
  • WISH: run a sub-4 marathon
  • WISH: go on a trip with my friend

FAMILY GOALS

  • Schedule 1 on 1 time with each member. Either a meal out, a walk, a trip.
  • Plan one big trip with key elements: nature, active, unexplored.
  • Regular small adventures: new restaurant, new places in our city, new movies, new recipes.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS/WISH

  • Get out of my comfort zone.
  • Read more work related topics.
  • WISH: land in a new job outside of Asia.

Things to track monthly:

  • Books
  • Movies
  • Favorite podcast episodes
  • Call with friends and family
  • New small adventures with the family
  • New recipes

Things to track daily:

  • What I listened
  • How long I spent reading
  • Whether I did stretching
  • Whether I did journaling
  • Whether I meditated
  • Meals
  • Workout
  • Symptoms
  • Mood

I am very excited for 2024, I can feel changes are coming! 🙂

  1. Great goals- these seem similar to your previous years but with a few unique tweaks. Why specifically the wish to move out of Asia? Just ready for something new or ?? Also, I really like the point about considering trade offs. I think that’s something I do not pause to think about enough. For example, using my (lack of) morning workout example. Sometimes I find myself not working out so that I can stay home and either read blogs or write on my blog. Well, in reality, while I enjoy those things greatly, I do not make any money from my blog, it’s not part of my actual job, etc. Really, my workout is probably a higher priority, but because I don’t pause to consider the trade off, I make a decision that might not actually make sense or align fully with my life’s values. 🙂

  2. Your fitness goal is a great one, and one I also am trying to make sure that I stay on top of. We are not getting any younger and it is amazing how hard it is to stay strong when you start to falter on your workouts. I have started running a lot less over the last year and am trying to find other things (hikes, biking, strength) to do if I am not going to run, as I do definitely want to stay strong and healthy!

  3. How do you track things? I’m so nosy about this stuff! Do you have a paper planner or do you do it all electronically? Tell me your secrets! It just seems like a lot to track each day, but maybe it’s not so bad if you just sit down for a few minutes at the end of each day and do it.

  4. Good luck with your goals! A move out of Asia would be big! I imagine you wouldn’t have a helper if you moved outside of Asia as it seems like it’s pretty inexpensive there but would be a pretty huge cost in the US/Europe? You’ve seen and done so much while living in Asia so it’s good that you’ve taken advantage of living where you do!

  5. Ooh, I’m excited to see what the year will bring for you! I also want to challenge myself more at work, but it won’t involve moving to a different country! I also need to incorporate more small adventures into my life. And while my running goals are different than yours (a sub-4 marathon is NOT on my radar any time soon!) our strength training goals sound similar.
