Weekend highlights & workout report

We had a chill weekend, as usual, maybe the last one for a while as my workload is picking up and I am anticipating busy months to come. Highlight of our weekend were:

another taco Saturday and burrito on Sunday. The family loved it

I took sofia to a korean spa, where they scrub you fully naked for an hour. We came out SUPER clean. I really liked it, and Sofia seemed to enjoy more the company.

I finished the Perfect Couple series, very enjoyable. I also binged on Stephen King’s short stories for two afternoons.

Workout report

Monday: 6.2 miles recovery run, 20 min yoga flow.

Tuesday: 8.2 miles easy run with strides. very enjoyable run thanks to lower than usual humidity and good air.

Wednesday: 2 miles easy, 2 sets of 5k @10-15 secs faster than desired half marathon pace, 2 miles easy. Total 10.8 miles. It was a really satisfying run. A bit daunting at first but felt good despite being challenging. I could have gone longer for the cool down miles which made me wonder did I push myself enough? Apparently, this is a workout based on Kenyan National team. They will do 5-6 of these in preparation for a fast marathon but my coach tapered it down to make it more sense for the half. 20 min upper body workout.

Thursday: 7.7 miles easy with strides. I could felt I was challenged yesterday but enjoyed this easy run just as much. Quick recovery?! 30 min lower body.

Friday: full rest.

Saturday: 8.3 miles easy. 30 min vinyasa flow.

Sunday: 14 miles. 5 warm up, 4 at desired HMP, 5 cool down. I didn’t realize about the 4 miles workout so I didn’t bring gel, only dates. I also added too much LMNT which made the water too salty. I ran well until miles 9, then my stomach felt weird and had to slowdown quite a bit to let it settle. Lesson learned about fueling and hydrating.

Total miles: 55.5

Strength training: 2

Yoga: 2

  1. Great week of running! And you had some strength and yoga in there as well. Part of the reason we do long runs before a race is to figure out the fueling- now you know what doesn’t work!

I’m excited about your half- it’s coming up soon!

  2. I haven’t heard of that show, but we get Netflix, so I will keep an eye out for it. Great job on your workouts, getting ready for your run! And spa time with your daughter is lovely.
