Our journey to Perth was smooth. We had a short layover in Bali where we rushed to eat lunch at the lounge. The Perth airport is small and cozy. We took a big uber to fit 5 of us in and our luggage and got in our airbnb at 7pm. Then we went out to find dinner and found a very traditional chinese place 1 block away. Everyone was happy with the food.
My mind still has tons of work related things. It annoys me that my mind is not ready/there for the holidays but also don’t want to be mad about it either. I know it will be hard to forget about the job hunting situation for the next few weeks. And this is okay as this is a period of dealing with work stress. I should and will not be pissed off because I can’t enjoy my holidays 100%. Prioritize what’s important now, a la Lazy Genius way.
Race goal? Honestly, I don’t have the same level of focus, excitement nor ambition as I had for marathons. Maybe that’s a healthy mindset? My A+ goal would be under 1:45, A goal under 1:50, and if none of them is possible, I wouldn’t be disappointed because this is not my A race, it’s a fun race, an excuse to go to Perth with the family.
What excites me is to see my work son, who’s studying in Melbourne and coming to join us for few days. He arrived past midnight and is still sleeping, as the rest of the family. Poor husband stayed up late to open the door for him. I haven’t seen him since 2021. It has been a long journey for him to get where he is, with a lot of push and support from me and his work dad, to pursue this long graduate school journey. He is someone very special to me because the moment I met him I knew I liked him. Hard to tell why. It’s his manner, his look (a bit shy). He’s a good soul, super hard working and tremendous talent and potential. I feel lucky to be part of his professional life. Yay!! Thinking about reunion with R makes me so happy.
Plan for the day? get our bibs, maybe explore downtown? We will go slow and easy to save our legs for the best chance to PR tomorrow. R and I are doing half, Sofia is doing 4km.
Love your perspective on this race; sounds like you’re really enjoying the process and hope it’s a really nice time of reconnecting with friends/colleagues.

Welcome to Perth! Sorry the run didn’t eventuate today, if you’re back to running/recovered by next Saturday the offer still stands to join us for Parkrun! Good luck for the half tomorrow, looks like pretty good conditions! Can’t wait until my kids are big enough to want to run races too. Hope you all have a lovely holiday here 🙂

Good luck with your race! I hope you had a great time! I regret not making it to Perth when I was studying abroad in Australia! It was hard to get everywhere I wanted to go, though, since I didn’t have unlimited time and money. But I would love to go there someday!
That is great that you have played such an instrumental role in the career of a young person! That is kind of how I feel about the guy I hired last fall. He’s been a great fit and I am really trying to develop him like my mentor did for me 10+ years ago. I tell him that he’s ’my Lisa’.
