Day 3 & My happy check list

Highlights of the day:

Very strong run. So satisfied. 17 miles (more like 16.5 miles due to GPS acting weirdly), negative split. I love when a run ended up exceeding my expectations. I don’t feel fully recovered from stress lately so this came out as a big surprise.

Doing my nails with cozy music and tea.

Favorite meal: vegan shephard pie with roasted zucchini followed by kabocha for dessert

Kabocha is my top 2 food in the world (tie with corn, but not any type of corn), but I couldn’t find good ones since we moved to Jakarta until this week, so I piled up because I’m not sure I will get another good batch next time. soon my palm will turn orange but who cares

Other things done:

– take the morning easy after the LR. When I am rushed, I don’t recover well.

– plan next for next week, update calendar

– write down dinner ideas for the family

– pick up Sofia back from her sleepover birthday party. Another outrageous party by ridiculous rich locals

– took a short nap. Lizzy asked me why I am taking naps these days. Well, I said because the weather, gray and stormy, was perfect for afternoon nap.

– did nails for Lizzy

-made ramen for Lizzy and she affirmed me I’m the best personal chef in the world 🙂

Workout: 17 (16.5) miles LR, 20 min yoga for runners.

Media: 10 things to tell you episode on reading lately; Spotify daily mix, both during my run. Then watched an episode of disclaimer in the afternoon.

Reading: slow productivity (may abandone it soon because I think I’m already practicing it), started Bel Canto.

Inspired by this, I’m writing down what little things make me happy every day

  • Waking up feeling satisfied with my sleep quality
  • Coming out from my bedroom and find Cookie waiting for me to pet her
  • Quiet morning in the darkness
  • Morning meditation during sunrise: feeling peace and gratitude
  • Feeling fresh, energized, clean after post-run shower
  • Sit down with my bowl of oatmeal, it’s like a blanket of comfort, pure bliss
  • Get some chit chat at work with colleague friends
  • Finishing my must to-do list for the day before lunch
  • Take a quick bath with epsom salt after work before the family gets home
  • Dinner with the family to catch up with their day
  • Bringing a small snack/treat to the girls when they are doing homework
  • Put on my favorite PJ set, soft, comfy while still looks cute
  • Settle down in bed to read when not too sleepy
  • Final words with the girls before bed, in darkness, sharing small and big thoughts/ideas
  • Feeling asleep, settle in bed with my pillow between legs, and stuff toy in my arms, so happy to be falling to sleep

  1. What a lovely day! Congrats on your great run, that is amazing.

I laughed at the rich family birthday party comment. My daughter had a friend whose family acted very down to earth, but then would have these over the top parties. For her 16th birthday, they rented a Hummer limousine to take the group of girls to San Francisco (about 30 minutes from here, longer if you count traffic once they got to the city) to go shopping. Why would you take a group of 16 year olds shopping? I mean, unless you are willing to give all of these kids the same amount of money, it’s mean. Some girls shopped like crazy, others had almost no money to spend. Really shitty in my book, I wish I had known ahead of time, I would have kept my daughter home.

  2. What a beautiful list of things to be grateful for!

And also, among San’s followers there are soo many athletes and runners it is making me feel like a very lazy person already on day 3 of NaBloPoMo! 😦 or maybe it’s a good thing and it will make me exercise a bit more?! Hopefully!!

  3. I love this! I can relate to so many of these- a great long run, a lovely shower afterwards. A nap on a gloomy day (one of my favorite things in the world), reading in bed. Comfy pajamas!!! Oatmeal.

Question: what do you put on your “dessert” kabocha? Is it just plain? Sweetened?

  4. Your day looks both productive and relaxing at the same time. I love that setup at the desk where you do your nails! It looks so peaceful.

Disclaimer looks interesting but unfortunately we don’t have that streaming service.

  5. I read Slow Productivity and thought it was okay but like you said, he wasn’t really saying anything that I did not already know. Nice work on your long run! I haven’t run that far in a long time and will be interested to see how long it takes me to get back to that point (my max has been 8 miles in the last few months).

  6. Slow Productivity was a DNF for me.

I love when something ends up exceeding my expectations! I tend to be pessimistic, so it’s such a joy to have something be more pleasant or successful than I anticipated.

Your “kambocha” looks a lot like butternut squash? Which I love but almost never buy/prepare. My mom does, though. If it’s anything like butternut squash, if you cook and mash it, it freezes SO well!

  7. I feel like I know a lot of Slow Productivity’s ideas already from listening to Deep Questions, but it’s just a topic I really enjoy hearing about over and over, I guess! Ha. I feel like certain topics I never really get sick of, because I feel like it’s valuable for me to get constant reminders, etc to keep those principles front of mind instead of letting them drift away…. But I know what you mean!

Love your green shorts, by the way 😉

  8. Great job on your run. I am pretty steady runner, so negative splits are not something I aspire to, but I love when it happens for others. Yay!

Your morning sounds lovely… morning meditation, feeling rested and a big bowl of oatmeal 🙂
