Ways to slowdown

My whole life until 40s has been focused to be productive, to progress, to advance, to prove myself, to get where I want to be, whatever that is. I think I found the place. I am learning to slowdown, to live in the present as I have nowhere else I want to be than here.

  1. Linger over dining table with the family. Let the girls talk.
  2. Meditate longer when I have time. 20+ min would be ideal.
  3. Stare at the coffee machine as it makes my coffee, enjoy the first sip.
  4. Hug the girls longer than they want to.
  5. Ask follow up questions when they share.
  6. Make hours long meals for the family.
  7. Watch slow TV series, without the phone.
  8. Ready short essays, one essay at the time, and reflect.
  9. Re-read birthday cards.
  10. Write slowly on my journal, feel the ink.
  11. Browse through photos. Relive those moments.
  12. Take long showers.

  1. I would like more of a slow pace to my life in 2025. 2024 felt so intense and busy at times. My word of the year will be breathe and hopefully that will help me remember to slow down and breathe.

  2. This is a great reminder, thanks, Coco. I’m way too hectic, especially in the mornings after I get up. I love your ideas, except the long showers – water is a precious commodity in Cape Town.

  3. I already do #11, and love reminiscing. I don’t well with slow-er pace of life, I think it’s because I have anxiety. But your plan sounds great. I am an immigrant in the US, came here 20+ years ago and yes, I can relate to the constant need to prove myself to others. But I’m over it.
