Florianopolis: an “unproductive”trip :)

Let me explain: this unproductive trip description came from Sofia as we are just so lazy during this trip. We didn’t do much nor explored most of the beaches which is what Floripa is famous for. It’s winter season, it has been 3 days of no sun and one day of rain, and we were all so lazy wanting nothing but chill and relax, which was somehow perfect in the mist of getting back to busy school and work. Sofia said that when we are at home and we have open day, she feels needing to do something productive to not feel guilty, but here since we don’t have access to homework, she feels no guilt of being unproductive. As I heard it, I could relate so much and so glad that I don’t feel guilty anymore.

Thursday: day of our travel. I went to slimfit before we left as our flight was 1140. I even packed lunch for everyone for the 2 hrs 10 min flight.

we arrived and as we drove to our airbnb, we were surprised by what we saw. The city looks so different than other parts of Brazil. Husband said it looks like Vancouver, water and mountain and cute houses. Lizzy said it looks like New Zealand.

we stayed in an area that has a big lagoon. After some relaxing, Sofia and I went to the mall to pick up the kit. Then we went out for dinner at a Thai place, first time we had thai food since we moved to Brazil.

Friday morning I went out for 20 min shake out run after two days of rest. It felt ok although it was quite humid.

Then we went to the downtown area for some historical site.

the end destination was the public market. We are a family of local wet market!

and the highlight was finding crab. Floripa is well known for seafood. Husband and Lizzy are big fan of crabs and we had none since we got to Brazil, so they were super excited to find live crabs. We got 4, some mussels and crab legs.

after dropping things at home, we went to a japanese buffet for lunch

then we all took some rest at home before venturing out to visit beach Joaquina. It was not easy to convince the girls to leave the house but I said we need to visit at least one beach our of hundreds here. This is a surfing beach and we saw many surfing. Sofia was supposed to surf but honestly with this cold weather, I am glad we are not doing it.

and then girls tried the sand dunes slides. We were there for 45 min before getting too exhausted to go up again.

crab for dinner, it was so fresh.

I went to bed early to get up at 3am as my colleague was coming to pick me at 340. Maybe because of the crab, I woke up few times due to belly ache. sigh…. forgot the rule of never eating something new before race.

We got there 20 min before the start and here we got. The starting time was 5:10am but actually started 5:20am. I wasn’t bothered too much as I was in good spirit. Still haven’t decided if I’d race it or just run for training.

i’ll recap in my workout report, but basically I decided to just run for training after mile 8.

It was a good run and my colleague caught me at the end and gave me some boost to finish strong. The rain started just minutes after we finished. Not light rain, thunderstorm rain!

I took a long shower as I was soaked and got cold. Then took a nap until about 12 when I invited the girls to go to cinema with me, and anything else would be out of question given the thunder. I was glad they agreed to watch The odyssey with me. We got extra large popcorn for the 3 hours of movie.

I loved it!!! Lizzy said she’d have nightmare for weeks, Sofia was reserve in giving her opinion, but I love it! All of it!

We got home and chill for the rest of the evening.

Sunday: slow start and smooth return home, sweet home. After we got home, I first had my weekly massage, much needed for my posterior soreness. Then we did groceries and I meal prep. Teriyaki chicken for dinner. Then veggie frittata with sweet potato, and roasted chicken thighs with potato and bell peppers. Feeling accomplished and ready to start the week again.

  1. What a wonderful trip! I agree, it can be hard to have downtime at home, there are always things that need to be done (homework, housework, improvements, etc.) so going somewhere to chill is great.
