Audit 2025 goal lists

I reviewed my 25 for 2025, accomplished half of them. Not too bad for a Pivot year.

I didn’t review my goal list often, but I am committed to do better, now that I am learning Sarah’s method properly with her book which I love!!!

Below is what I wrote at the start of the year and an objective review of how I did. This review is part of Sarah’s yearly planning process. Looking back first! 🙂 I’ll do a 2025 BIG moments post next to recap our busy year with lots of changes.

Personal:

  • Strength training: 3+ sessions per week. Mostly accomplished, except when traveling which was more often than previous year.
  • Running: new marathon PR and new short distance PR (maybe 5k). Did not happen because of constant travel the first half of the year crossing 12+ time zones, and then knee issues second half of the year. This is the first year I didn't run a marathon since 2016 (except 2020).
  • Reading: I want to read both mornings and evenings. I read 30 books, not consistent though.
  • Journaling: I want to resume filling 5 years journal, record my strength sessions, and do a end of a day reflection. I was not consistent with the practice, and I come to think because I wasn’t sure about my why. Failed. Mornings were rushed to go out for my run. Evenings I was too tired.
  • Regular auditing of my goals. Last year I checked on how I am doing with my goals once. Failed.
  • Update my work attire. I haven’t bought work cloth for years, except batik. They still fit but wear and tear is becoming noticeable. Time to update, something that I am not big fan of. I love buying workout and casual clothes, but work clothes less so. Only in December, I got 3 new skirts and one top.
  • Be kind to myself. Give permission to do nothing more often, skip a run or workout when I am sleep deprived, stop working when I can’t focus even though there’s a deadline, etc. Gold star!

Family

  • Read with the girls as part of night winding down routine. Did not happen. Girls are busy in the evening with homework, I was rushed and tired until we got help in November.
  • 1:1 time with the girls. It could be a walk, an ice cream date, a meal alone. Simple things in a weekly basis to connect with them. Gold star. We did many walks, solo bikes/runs, talking time in the car.
  • Kids make meals on weekends. Sofia has started baking, this year she will start cooking meals. Lizzy will be her assistant. Sofia did mostly baking, no food yet.
  • Do more fun activities like board game, go to movie together, go biking, etc. Not enough.
  • Find daily connection time with husband. As we move to a new place, I’ll have adult interaction as work, he won’t, so I need to be mindful of checking on him. Not enough. Energy level in the evenings is low and had prioritize the girls. He never complained about it. He's my hero.

Relationships

  • Set up regular catch up calls with best friends.
  • Plan a trip with a close friend.
  • Connect with mom every day, either a quick call on my way to work or text given the time difference.
  • Be open to meeting new people in Brasilia. Now that I know we will be here 3+ years, I want to invest in new friendships.
  • Host weekend gatherings.

Overall, didn't accommodate it. I did a bit of all of above but definitely not as wanted.

Work

  • Build connection with new colleagues.
  • Learn Portuguese. I’ll start the language program soon and commit to spend 0.5-1 hr a day.
  • Be mindful of my new role, seek advice often.

Accomplished.

Fun

  • Find new family activities in Brasilia: biking? horse riding? soccer?
  • Explore new places in the region: Buenos Aires, ski trip in Argentina, Machu Picchu (?), Rio de Janeiro.

Gold star. We traveled quite a lot.

  1. that’s quite the list of challenges….I try, but as I was taught this year, life can sometimes slap you in the face and any plans or schedules quickly fall apart…..I’m thinking about getting that book, but day by day has changed, may be a little less of a challenge, but if I just prioritize 25 (or 26?) maybe I can straighten my life rather than always having to improvise….actually feels like a sunday night thing to do

  2. This is a solid, honest review, Coco. Half done in a pivot year is not “not too bad”, it’s actually realistic progress.

I remember seeing your goals at the beginning of the year and thinking that getting a marathon PR is going to be hard if you have a lot of other things going on. And you DID have a lot of things going on: moving countries, work and travel, then your knee issue – that’s a lot of challenges! But you didn’t quit, you simply adapted. There are plenty of marathons in the years to come!

  3. You accomplished so much for such a busy year – and the things that you didn’t, you can roll into this year if you want to. I love that you have “being kind to yourself” on your list. I am here for that!!

  4. this was a transition year as you said. I am the same way with husband, kids need care and he is the last one to get my attention. Sigh. Same with books. I wish I could read more but my job gets the best of me :/

You did great. I was following along this year and you did an amazing job moving your family across the world, even your cat and getting another cat!! You rock girl!
