Celebratory weekend

Soo….. right after I finished Friday’s post, Lizzy came and told me she finished the test. She reached to the last question before the program stopped as it is a timed test. 50 questions, 20 min. I was relieved that at least time management was good. Then right after she submitted the test, I got an email about her result. I didn’t have time to process, I thought it would take 2 days as it was the case with Sofia, and got the result. She SURPASSED her math test. The test is required to join the summer program that Sofia went. It tests two grade in advance and you could passed or passed-advanced, which are requirement to enroll in courses. Some courses require normal math and/or verbal, others require advanced math and/or verbal. For the course that Lizzy wants to do, she needs normal math, but she got advanced math, which means from now on until high school she can participate any course that requires it.

WHAT A RELIEF!!! I am so proud of her to putting on 6 weeks of work, averaging 10 hours a week. This is, apparently, super hard for kids nowadays, to sit and focus for an extended period of time. As I was thinking during her test time when I drafted the blog post, I was ready to embrace any outcome because we both really worked hard. No wonder I haven’t finished a book for a while because 10 hours of free time per week is not small feat.

The entire family is extremely happily surprised by the outcome, and proud of Lizzy. This weekend was full relax and celebration, and I keep telling her that we celebrate her effort which, in this case, resulted in a positive outcome.

she asked for sushi on Saturday when I suggested to go out for celebration. We rarely go out to eat in Brasilia as girls prefer homemade food. But for this occasion, we went to a fancy place just for the ceremony of a celebration. And we dressed up. I rarely put on a dress on weekend, but I did for Lizzy.

We also went to a mall wanting to pick a gift for both girls but they couldn’t find anything that they like and didn’t find expensive (love my frugal girls) so we had ice cream instead.

Sunday we continued to a relaxing day and full of gratitude. The family enjoyed a 5 hours cooked lamb leg which melted in their mouth.

I spent 2 hours chatting with my BFF on Saturday and with my mom on Sunday. So nice to be sharing the good news to my closest family and friend.

We finished the diplomat season 4, my favorite season so far and both girls love the show, especially the sarcasm of the dialogues.

I spent 2 hours in bed, napping and reading, back to pre SCAT era 🙂

I am so glad this era is behind us. I realized that I dropped many balls in the last 6 weeks. For the past 6 weeks, my two priorities were marathon training and test prep. Moving onto November, I’ll focus on expected work load and work trip to pile up before December break.

I am feeling this is a milestone for Lizzy, a turning of something new, and I am so happy to be part of this process.

  1. WOW, Coco, congratulations to Lizzy!! What a fantastic result. 10 hours a week is a lot!! I don’t know how you even did that besides work and marathon training and all your other responsibilities. I’d be knackered!
I love that you celebrated the occasion properly, dressing up and going somewhere fancy for sushi! Nice that your girls are so frugal, too. It will serve them well in life.

  2. Wow! This is amazing, and so great that she can “ride the success” of this test result for years to come.
That is so much time and effort to put into studying and it is a testament to her fortitude and determination she stuck with it. And what a joy all that hard work payed off (it usually does, but not always and that can be SO hard… a lot of work and not the result you wanted is a VERY hard experience).
I’m so glad you were able to celebrate her all weekend and I am so proud of all of you for working together toward this common goal, but especially to Lizzy for working so, so hard!!
